Words Of Assurance
Blessed are your eyes, for they see, and your ears, for they hear.
Pastoral Prayer
Everlasting God, whose living Spirit has brought all things into being, we glory in the wonder of your creation. Your mind has given order to the universe; we bless you for your truths and laws, often hidden in unfathomable ways. You have revealed your love in Jesus Christ; and we praise you for your immeasurable goodness in your continual redemption. We come to you, our Father, needing your guidance and sustaining, your judgment and comfort.
You who have fearfully and wondrously made all things, direct the eyes of our understanding to see the work of your hands in the beauty, form, and bounty of nature. Since all mysteries and knowledge have been known to you from the beginning of the world, inspire us with a reverent spirit as we discover and explore. Make us mindful that children and flowers, stars and atoms, and all that has life and form were fashioned as good in your sight.
Holy God, who places each generation of humanity into a new garden of blessings and freedom, forgive us for our self-will and disobedience in the use of your gifts. While fruit-laden boughs reflect your lovingkindness, we have often wasted or withheld food while many hungered. Cleanse and restore the image of yourself within us. Make us as your children, bound together with all who seek to know your will for all the earth.
O Christ, who spoke at mountainside and field, grant us a new awareness of your presence as the summer's majesty and splendor, rest and gladness, surround us. Give to those who are filled with anxieties for tomorrow sufficient strength for today. Keep us from evading tasks with useless dreaming. Guide us in work, play, and companionship into ways which cause us to return to your altar with joy and thankfulness. Lead the heavy-laden by your Spirit into green pastures and refreshing streams.
Grant grace unto us and to your Church everywhere to declare the gospel of your glorious life and kingdom. So may people know and believe that you are Lord and Redeemer of all, to the glory of the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
Benediction
What you have heard with your ears, may you believe in your hearts; and what you believe in your hearts may you practice in your lives; and the blessing of God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit be upon you now and always. Amen.
Blessed are your eyes, for they see, and your ears, for they hear.
