Service Notes/Gospel Drama And Dance
Today's gospel lends itself to two readers. The first can tell the older, smaller unit (vv. 24-36) and the second can tell the explanation (vv. 30-36). This would be most effective if the text were memorized. The first speaker should stand (as if before a crowd) and the second reader can be seated on a stool or even on the chancel steps, as if speaking to a more intimate group of hearers.
The gospel text may also be danced, accompanied by an improvisatory jazz soprano sax or flute. Two dancers are needed -- one who will portray the weeds and one who will portray the wheat.
