Lectionary Tales for the Pulpit
Series II, Cycle C
Two men were high up in a hot air balloon. The winds had been strong and they had been drifting for some time. As they were checking their maps and looking at the ground below, they were not able to get their bearings. They were hopelessly lost and did not know what to do.
Then one of the men had a great idea. "Let's lower the balloon down closer to the ground and try to find someone who can give us directions," he said. They both agreed that this was a great idea. After lowering the balloon they saw a man and started yelling at him, hoping to get his attention. Finally, the man noticed the two lost balloonists. They asked him if he knew where they were. "Why, yes, you are fifty feet high in a hot air balloon." One of the balloonists turned to the other and said, "Let's stop listening to these CPAs." "How do you know that he is a CPA?" asked the other. "Because he gave us perfectly accurate information that was of absolutely no value to us whatsoever."
