LECTIONARY WORSHIP AIDS
Series III
* CALL TO WORSHIP
Come into God's presence with a clean heart, with a new and right
spirit, indeed in the discipline of the Holy Spirit from me.
* PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Giver of manna, Breaker of bread, Creator of the new, it is true
that we still do what we have not learned from Christ. We can be
hardhearted when we should be forgiving. We can be selfish when
we should be willing to share. We can be greedy and complaining
when we have enough to get by. We can be as unscrupulous in our
dealing as if we did not know what is just and true. Forgive us
and finish your new creation through Jesus Christ. Amen.
* DECLARATION OF GOD'S FORGIVENESS
Hear the Good News! Hope is held out in God's call to you, one
Christ, one faith, one baptism, one God, parent of us all.
Friends, believe the Good News! In Jesus Christ, we are
forgiven.
* EXHORTATION
Be humble always, and gentle, and patient too. Be forbearing
with one another and charitable.
* PRAYER OF THE DAY
Giver of good things, Gift of God, Spirit of the self-giver, give
us an appetite for the eternal life that we may not be satisfied
with what perishes but devote our lives to the pursuit of
spiritual excellence. Amen.
* PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING
Giver of all patience, Child of our humanity, renewing Spirit, we
turn from our complaints about what we do not have to
thanksgiving for the many good things you have given us. In
addition to the simple nutrition of good bread and butter you
give us the bread of angels, sustenance of the Spirit, the bread
of life. We rejoice in the ideas and revelation that stimulate
our thinking. We revel in the new joys that we experience in the
shared intimacy of others with similar commitments to the truth.
We are grateful for your patience in teaching us, your
understanding through incarnational experience, your
perseverance in developing our relationships. All praise to you
perfect Parent, loving Brother, family Spirit. Amen.
* PRAYER OF DEDICATION
Generous Giver, we would emulate your generosity, making possible
the sharing of bread of life at the Lord's table, and in the
gathering of your people where they live and work and play,
everywhere. Amen.
* PSALM 51:1-12
Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love;
according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions.
Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity,
and cleanse me from my sin.
For I know my transgressions,
and my sin is ever before me.
Against you, you alone, have I sinned,
and done what is evil in your sight,
so that you are justified in your sentence
and blameless when you pass judgment.
Indeed, I was born guilty,
a sinner when my mother conceived me.
You desire truth in the inward being;
therefore teach me wisdom in my secret heart.
Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean;
wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
Let me hear joy and gladness;
let the bones that you have crushed rejoice.
Hide your face from my sins,
and blot out all my iniquities.
Create in me a clean heart, O God,
and put a new and right spirit within me.
Do not cast me away from your presence,
and do not take your holy spirit from me.
Restore to me the joy of your salvation,
and sustain in me a willing spirit.
Come into God's presence with a clean heart, with a new and right
spirit, indeed in the discipline of the Holy Spirit from me.
