Lectionary Worship Aids
Series VI, Cycle C
Theme: God's Love For His People
Call To Worship
Leader: Give thanks to the Lord. He is good and his love is eternal.
People: We will repeat these words in praise to the Lord.
Leader: Some wandered in the trackless desert. They were hungry and thirsty, and had given up all hope.
People: Then in their trouble they called to the Lord, and he saved them from their distress.
Leader: Come, let us worship the Lord with thanks for his constant love!
Collect
O God, we know that you will never abandon us because your love for us is too strong. Though we have sinned against you and disappointed you, like a loving Father you forgive us and give us another chance. We give you thanks and praise for this undeserved mercy. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, we look at our lives, the way we have misused your blessings, our greed and selfishness, and we are ashamed. Free us from the shackles of these sins, and enable us to turn to you for direction. Through your Holy Spirit make it possible for us to live for others that we may find our true selves, and the joy and happiness that come from serving you. Amen.
Offertory Prayer
Gracious God, we offer these gifts with the prayer that they may make your Church stronger and enable it to do your work as it endeavors to demonstrate your love to an unrepentant world. Amen.
Hymns
"Love Divine, All Loves Excelling"
"Creating God, Your Fingers Trace"
"Thou Hidden Love Of God"
Proper 13/Ordinary Time 18
Sunday between July 31 and August 6 inclusive
Second Lesson: Colossians 3:1-11
Theme: The New Life In Christ
Call To Worship
We have been raised to new life in Christ, but we have work to do. As we worship this morning, let us open our minds and hearts to the teachings from God's Word about our new life as Christians.
Come, let us worship the Lord!
Collect
Heavenly Father, we are thankful for the new life offered to us in Christ, but we still cling to some of our old ways and habits. As we draw near to you in prayer and meditation during this time of worship, may we hear your still, small voice directing us in our self-examination. By the power of your indwelling Holy Spirit, may we then go from this place empowered to live that new life. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Merciful God, we confess that we cling to our old habits. Greed, anger, and hateful feelings cling to us, and by our own determination we have been unable to shake them. They make us miserable, and we earnestly seek the new life in Christ. Forgive our weakness and help us, Lord, that we might be set free to show forth your love in all that we do and say. Amen.
Offertory Prayer
Almighty God, we bring our offerings as symbols of our thanksgiving for your many blessings. If your kingdom is to come, the ways of the world must be changed. We pray that these gifts may be used to that end, and that the work of your Church may hasten the day when your will is done on earth as it is in heaven. Amen.
Hymns
"Blessed Assurance"
"I Sought The Lord"
"I Surrender All"
Proper 13/Ordinary Time 18

Gospel Lesson: Luke 12:13-21
Theme: Beware Of Measuring Your Life By Your Wealth
Call To Worship
Jesus spoke to the crowds, telling them to examine their priorities. "Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also," he said.
As we worship this morning, let us honestly examine our priorities! Come, let us worship!
Collect
O God, you know our needs before we ask, and yet we spend much of our waking hours trying to figure out how we can accumulate more. Guide our worship this morning, Lord, that we may measure our lives not by how much wealth we have stored up, but by how well we have served you. We praise you, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and we put our trust in you. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord God, Creator and Sustainer of our lives, we are caught up in the frenzy of our society to accumulate more and more things. We need your Holy Spirit to free us from this fierce competition and enable us to put our trust in you. Help us to put first your kingdom and our place in it, that we might better serve you. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
Offertory Prayer
Lord, as we present our tithes and offerings, we ask that you will teach us the joy of sacrificial giving that we might get our priorities in order and better serve you and your kingdom. Amen.
Hymns
"Take My Life, And Let It Be"
"What Does The Lord Require"
"Seek Ye First"
