LECTIONARY WORSHIP AIDS
Series III
* CALL TO WORSHIP
Await God's presence and hope in God's word as if you were
looking for the first light of dawn after a dark night.
* PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Loving and forgiving Parent, Loving and forgiving Christ, Loving
and forgiving Spirit, we confess that we are not always generous,
tender-hearted and forgiving. We can be spiteful in our behavior
because of the bad feeling that we cherish in our hearts. That
anger can come out in angry shouting and cursing which is not
only offensive to others but grieves your Spirit within us.
Forgive us for resisting the Spirit who is at work in us to make
us more like Jesus Christ. Amen.
* DECLARATION OF GOD'S FORGIVENESS
Hear the Good News! God in Christ has forgiven you. Christ gave
himself on your behalf as an offering and sacrifice whose
fragrance is pleasing to God. Friends, believe the Good News! In
Jesus Christ, we are forgiven.
* EXHORTATION
Be generous to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving one another
as God in Christ forgave you.
* PRAYER OF THE DAY
Foster Son of Joseph, very Son of God, so teach us your way of
self-giving that we may give ourselves in the service of others
as you have given yourself for the life of the world. Amen.
* PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING
God of meadow and wilderness, Christ of human experience, Spirit
of renewal and rest, we are thankful for the angel you send to
minister to us. When we are depressed and ready to die, you send
someone with a word of encouragement, or a gift of food or
flowers or an invitation that leads to a change of scene and an
opportunity to recover and go on. When our chins are on our
chests, you send someone with a loving touch to raise our eyes to
you. Joy and thanksgiving break through the clouds like the sun
after a storm. We exalt your name together, everloving Parent,
understanding Brother, Holy Spirit of God, eternal and
liberating. Amen.
* PRAYER OF DEDICATION
As God's dear children, we come to you, trying to be like Jesus
Christ, who loved you and gave himself up on our behalf as an
offering and sacrifice whose fragrance is pleasing to you.
Receive what we give of ourselves and of our name in the name of
Jesus Christ. Amen.
* PSALM 130:1-8
Out of the depths I cry to you, O LORD. Lord, hear my voice!
Let your ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications!
If you, O LORD, should mark iniquities, Lord, who could stand?
But there is forgiveness with you, so that you may be revered.
I wait for the LORD,
my soul waits, and in his word I hope;
my soul waits for the Lord more than those who watch
for the morning,
more than those who watch for the morning.
O Israel, hope in the LORD!
For with the LORD there is steadfast love,
and with him is great power to redeem.
It is he who will redeem Israel from all its iniquities.
Await God's presence and hope in God's word as if you were
looking for the first light of dawn after a dark night.
