Call to Worship (based on Psalm 133)
Leader: How very good and pleasant it is when kindred live together in unity!
Men: It is like the precious oil on the head, running down upon the beard, on the beard of Aaron, running down over the collar of his robes.
Women: It is like the dew of Hermon, which falls on the mountains of Zion.
All: For there the Lord ordained his blessing, life forevermore.
Call to Offering
As God sent Joseph to Egypt to prepare for the coming famine, so God watches over each of us. Let us now confess to God our shortcomings and our sinful nature. Let us pray.
Prayer of Confession
Benevolent God, we come to you today to confess our jealous nature. We watch other people get the job we wanted, and our mouths spew hurtful comments. We malign our friends when we don't get our own way. We don't take the blame upon ourselves when our actions cause others to be hurt. Hardly a day goes by when we don't behave from our jealous nature rather than our loving one. Forgive us, God. Help us so that we don't behave like Joseph's brothers, resenting the love his father had for him. Help us to see the best in the people with whom we work and live. Be with the leaders of nations to work together for the best interests of all people. Show us your mercy. Amen.
Assurance of Forgiveness
Jesus Christ shows mercy to all who come asking for forgiveness, and who are truly repentant. Christ died for us; Christ lives for us. Alleluia! Amen.
Scripture Readings
Genesis 45:1--15: This passage is best done by one person who has memorized the lesson, and can act it out. It can be read if done well, but it won't be nearly as effective. Have "Joseph" read this passage from the sanctuary floor, right in the middle of the congregation.
Matthew 15:(10--20) 21--28: This passage is best done with a choral speaking choir. Do not read verses 10--20, unless you plan to preach on them. Verses 21--28 are very effective alone.

All Voices: Jesus left that place and went away to the district of Tyre and Sidon.
Voice 7: Just then a Canaanite woman from that region (Woman takes three steps toward Jesus) came out and started shouting,
Woman: Have mercy on me, Lord, Son of David; my daughter is tormented by a demon.
Voice 1: But he did not answer her at all. And his disciples came and urged him, saying,
Voices 3, 4, 5, and 6: Send her away, for she keeps shouting after us.
Voice 2: He answered,
Jesus: I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
Voice 2: But she came and knelt before him, saying,
Woman: Lord, help me.
Voice 2: He answered,
Jesus: It is not fair to take the children's food and throw it to the dogs.
Voice 2: But she said,
Woman: Yes, Lord, yet even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their master's table.
Voice 1: Then Jesus answered her,
Jesus: Woman, great is your faith! Let it be done for you as you wish.
All Voices: And her daughter was healed instantly.
Call to Offering
May our offering today go to feed hungry children and heal the sick around the world. As the woman came to Jesus, knelt and said, "Lord, help me," may we help those who need our help.
Prayer of Dedication (from hymn Where Charity And Love Prevail)
Leader: Where charity and love prevail, there God is ever found,
People: Brought here together by Christ's love, by love are we thus bound.
Left Side: With grateful joy and holy fear true charity we learn;
Right Side: Let us with heart and mind and strength now love Christ in return. Amen.
Closing Hymn
Help Us Accept Each Other
