LECTIONARY WORSHIP AIDS
Series III
* CALL TO WORSHIP
Praise the LORD! Give thanks to the LORD with all your heart.
* PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Wise God, forgive our foolish preoccupation with things that
don't matter. We are reluctant to open our minds to new ideas
and broader views. We are content to love you with less than all
our minds. We resist the discipline of study and sharing and
self-evaluation that could help us to grow in wisdom like your
Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.
* DECLARATION OF GOD'S FORGIVENESS
Hear the Good News! Jesus said, "As the living Father sent me,
and I live because of the Father, so he who eats me shall live
because of me." Friends, believe the Good News! In Jesus,
Christ, we are forgiven.
* EXHORTATION
Be most careful how you conduct yourselves: like sensible people,
not thoughtlessly. Use the present opportunity to the full, for
these are evil days.
* PRAYER OF THE DAY
Whet our appetite, Giver of life, for the bread of life, Jesus
Christ, that through our faith in him and our reception of him we
may have life eternal, living with him day by day and raised by
him on the last day. Amen.
* PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING
Founder of the feast, we give thanks today and every day for
daily bread to sustain our bodies and the bread of life to
restore our souls. We speak to one another in psalms and sing
songs and hymns in praise of your goodness in the name of our
Lord Jesus Christ. In silent times we make music in our hearts,
full of joy, full of the Holy Spirit. For all who write words
that we can say or sing we express our gratitude. For all who
compose melodies that give zest to our celebration of your grace,
we speak our praise. All praise to you, God of wisdom, beauty
and truth. Amen.
* PRAYER OF DEDICATION
Creator and giver of all good things, we bring our offering of
thanksgiving and declare our intentions to turn from evil and do
good, to seek peace and pursue it. Teach us how to revere your
name more fully through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
* PSALM 111:1-10
Praise the LORD!
I will give thanks to the LORD with my whole heart,
in the company of the upright,
in the congregation.
Great are the works of the LORD,
studied by all who delight in them.
Full of honor and majesty is his work,
and his righteousness endures forever.
He has gained renown by his wonderful deeds;
the LORD is gracious and merciful.
He provides food for those who fear him;
he is ever mindful of his covenant.
He has shown his people the power of his works,
in giving them the heritage of the nations.
The works of his hands are faithful and just;
all his precepts are trustworthy.
They are established forever and ever,
to be performed with faithfulness and uprightness.
He sent redemption to his people;
he has commanded his covenant forever.
Holy and awesome is his name.
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom;
all those who practice it have a good understanding.
His praise endures forever.
Praise the LORD! Give thanks to the LORD with all your heart.
