Cycle B, Series IV
Call To Worship
Leader: Let us each come before the Lord this day with an open heart!
People: Shall we share with the Lord every hope and dream of our hearts?
Leader: Those are a part of who we are. God would have us open wide our hearts.
People: But if we share the dreams of our hearts, will God still love us?
Leader: Yes, for God knew what was in our hearts even before the cross.
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
O God, in Your wisdom and mercy You sent the Christ to die for us, knowing full well how sinful we really are. It is through Your love we have any hope at all. Touch and heal us, O Lord. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, so often in our lack of understanding Your love, we have been afraid to share the desires of our hearts with You for fear they were not important enough or pure enough to be worthy of Your time. Forgive us, Lord, and help us to remember that You walked among us and knew the feelings we experience every day. And help us to share all that we are with You, Lord. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"Trust And Obey"
"My Life, My Love"
"My Jesus, I Love Thee"
Proper 17
Sunday between August 28 and September 3 inclusive
Second Lesson: James 1:17-27
Theme: Doers of the Word
Call To Worship
Leader: Let every people from every land hear the Good News of Jesus Christ!
People: Let us proclaim the wonderful news of the resurrection wherever we go.
Leader: And let the mercy and grace we have received be extended to all we meet.
People: That everyone might know our words to be full of truth and substance.
Leader: Christ the Lord lives today in the hearts and lives of the Church.
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
O God, we are so blessed that You have chosen not just to give us words to live by but also to live with us and walk with us every day in the Holy Spirit. Use us in wonderful ways, Lord. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, so often as we have read the scriptures we have heard messages of rules to live by and not heard within them of Your love. Too often we have even reduced Your New Covenant to little more than additional legalisms and we have not heard Your offer to live in us if we will only open our hearts to You. Forgive us, Lord, and walk anew with us today. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"He Lives"
"Christ Is Alive"
"God Will Take Care Of You"
Proper 17
Sunday between August 28 and September 3 inclusive
Gospel: Mark 7:1-8, 14-15, 21-23
Theme: Guard what proceeds from your heart.
Call To Worship
Leader: Come, let us gather together all who follow the living Lord!
People: We gather together in this house of worship to pay homage to God.
Leader: But the Lord lives also beyond these walls and on into the world.
People: Is it safe to carry the word of the Lord where we have never been?
Leader: In Christ, we are called to go into all the world without fear!
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
O God, it is so wonderful that You never asked us to be religious but instead to be faithful, and that You have promised Your Holy Spirit for all who will follow You. Bless us today, Lord. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, we have often failed to remember that we are sent into all the world to tell of Your love and mercy, and not just to the places where we feel safe. We are sent to help and care for all of Your children, and not just those we find acceptable. And our call is to share Your blessings and not keep them to ourselves. Forgive us, Lord. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"Take Time To Be Holy"
"The Voice Of God Is Calling"
"Spirit Of Faith, Come Down"
