LECTIONARY WORSHIP AIDS
Series III
* CALL TO WORSHIP
Give yourselves wholly to prayer . . . always interceding for all
God's people, and pray for me that I may be granted the right
words to make known God's purpose.
* PRAYER OF CONFESSION
God above us, God around us, God within us, help us to
distinguish between your law and the traditions of our society.
We are prone to make decisions on opinions that everyone is doing
it or that polls show us that we have a lot of company. Even
though you have listed a horrendous catalogue of sins that come
from within us, we have neglected our inner life. Save us from
all our sins, divine Redeemer. Amen.
* DECLARATION OF GOD'S FORGIVENESS
Hear the Good News! The Spirit will give us inner strength to
resist all evil. Friends, believe the Good News! In Jesus
Christ, we are forgiven.
* EXHORTATION
Find your strength in the power of the Spirit so that you may be
able to stand firm against all the devices of the devil.
* PRAYER OF THE DAY
Sovereign Spirit, so order our thoughts that our actions may give
evidence of your inner rule in our lives and our worship be no
vain lip-service but heartfelt obedience to your commands. Amen.
* PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING
God our guardian, we give hearty thanks that you do not leave us
defenseless against the evil around us or already within us. Not
only our physical safety but our spiritual security are of
concern to you. We appreciate the many resources you have given
us to fight against the ploys of the evil one. We enjoy the
community of faith that supports us in our striving against sin.
We rejoice in the victory of Christ over sin and death and will
celebrate that conquest in eternity. Amen.
* PRAYER OF DEDICATION
Divine Commander, with all your people we would stand firm in
support of your cause and in opposition to the dark forces of
heaven and earth. Receive this pledge and these tokens of our
allegiance. Amen.
* PSALM 45:1-2, 6-9 A love song.
My heart overflows with a goodly theme;
I address my verses to the king;
my tongue is like the pen of a ready scribe.
You are the most handsome of men;
grace is poured upon your lips;
therefore God has blessed you forever.
Your throne, O God, endures forever and ever.
Your royal scepter is a scepter of equity;
you love righteousness and hate wickedness.
Therefore God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of
gladness beyond your companions;
your robes are all fragrant with myrrh and aloes and cassia.
From ivory palaces stringed instruments make you glad;
daughters of kings are among your ladies of honor;
at your right hand stands the queen in gold of Ophir.
Give yourselves wholly to prayer . . . always interceding for all
God's people, and pray for me that I may be granted the right
words to make known God's purpose.
