Proper 17
Worship
Lectionary Worship Aids
Series VI, Cycle A
Object:
Theme: Marks Of The True Christian
Call To Worship
Thus says the Lord: "Let those who boast boast in this, that they understand and know me, that I am the Lord." As we come together to worship this morning let it be a time when we get to know the Lord better. Let us listen for the marks of a true Christian, and determine to live more Christ-like lives. Come, let us worship together!
Invocation
We thank you, O God, that through our shared worship we can bear each other's burdens and share each other's joys. By our presence here, we acknowledge that we are mutually dependent. Without each other, our faith becomes weak and our journey in life becomes a lonely trek in the wilderness. Consecrate, then, this time that we spend together, to our mutual upbuilding and our common love. Amen.
Confession
Heavenly Father, when we look at the marks of a true Christian as set forth in Paul's letter to the Romans, we realize how far we fall short, how inadequate are our lives. Humbly, we ask your forgiveness, and pray that in this time of worship your Holy Spirit will renew and strengthen our determination to love you more fully and serve you more adequately, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Offertory Prayer
Heavenly Father, we present these gifts as a partial response to the Apostle Paul's plea for Christians to contribute to the needs of the saints and extend hospitality. Bless these gifts, we pray, that through your Church they may be used to carry our your will. Amen.
Hymns
"A Charge To Keep I Have"
"Take Time To Be Holy"
"I Want A Principle Within"
