Series V, Cycle B
First Lesson: Song of Solomon 2:8-13
Theme: Spring Fever
Call To Worship
Leader: When we are in love with life, the whole world has beauty.
People: When morning has broken and the sun renews the day, the bird song in our hearts sings.
Leader: When we chance to see wildlife or examine the perfection of an opening summer flower, how can we think of other than the benevolence of a loving God?
All: Let us sing songs of praise and thanksgiving to God.
Collect
We make time to love life, O God, because your love of life is a constant presence that surrounds us. We touch the petal of a Cosmos blossom or notice the head of a sunflower as it follows the sun's course. We love our lifemates and our children with all our hearts. We enjoy the beautiful form of the human body and rejoice in the infinite variety of your creation. Thank you. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Wake up our exuberance for life, Holy Creator. Open our eyes and our ears to recognize when the time of singing has come. Give us a good dose of spring fever in the middle of summer. Amen.
52B Hymns1
"Morning Has Broken" or "Praise And Thanksgiving" Tune: BUNESSAN
"Take My Life, [And Let It Be][O Lord, Renew]" Tune: PATMOS
"Praise To God" Tune: SAKURA

Second Lesson: James 1:17-27
Theme: As First Fruits
Call To Worship
All good gifts around us are gifts from God who wishes us well. Like first fruits of old brought to God, let us live exemplary lives that are gifts of thanksgiving to God. Like first fruits produced when the plant is at fullest potency, let us spend our highest energy on best acts. Come, let us bring thankful selves to God.
Collect
We offer you our best, O generous Creator, by living decent, honorable lives. We offer you our best by choosing excellence over the mediocre, action above sloth, and an awareness of your presence in all that we do. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Help us be like first fruits among your creatures. Draw us away from wasting our talents on the trivial, lest we have no energy left over for creating what matters most. For the sake of Christ. Amen.
52B Hymns1
"We Plow The Fields And Scatter" Tune: WIR PFL†GEN
"My Prayer Rises To Heaven" Tune: VIETNAM
"[I][We] Sing The [Almighty][Mighty] Power Of God" Tune: ELLACOMBE

Gospel: Mark 7:1-8, 14-16, 21-23
Theme: From Within

Leader: Let us be transformers in a broken world.
People: Rather than bringers of harm, we would be healers.
Leader: Let us be transformers in a broken world.
People: Rather than destroyers, we would be builders.
Leader: Let us be transformers in a broken world.
People: Rather than devising havoc, we would bring about wholeness.
Collect
We gather, O God, as people who want to be stronger Christians. We want our lives to make a positive impact on the world around us. We want to be more loving. We want to be like Jesus. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Bring us to the acknowledgement of the source of our actions, O God. Fortify us for taking responsibility for all we do without blaming our environment, heritage, or others. Come into our hearts so that good intentions may come from our hearts. For the sake of Christ. Amen.
