Lectionary Worship Aids
Series VI, Cycle C
Theme: Stupid People
Call To Worship
Leader: Fools say to themselves, "There is no God!" They are all corrupt.
People: They have done terrible things, and there is no one who does what is right.
Leader: The Lord looks at us humans to see if there are any who are wise.
People: But they have all gone; they are all equally bad.
Leader: Come, let us worship the God of Justice and Righteousness. Let us renew our faith in the Almighty and pledge our loyalty to our Eternal King, for we are neither ignorant nor stupid.
Collect
Almighty God, we realize you must think we are ignorant and stupid, for too often we have neglected your ways and chosen to walk in the footsteps of the wicked. We come now seeking your forgiveness and searching for ways we can redeem ourselves in your sight. Help us, we pray, as we strive to walk in the footsteps of our Master, Jesus Christ. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Merciful God, we repent of our failings at doing good, and seek your forgiveness offered through your Son, Jesus Christ. Grant us, we pray, a new sense of wisdom that will enable us to see the needs of all about us, and seeing them, give us the courage to do something about them. Amen.
Offertory Prayer
O Lord, we bring these gifts as a pledge of our allegiance to your kingdom. Bless them and us as we strive to be worthy messengers of your redeeming love. Amen.
Hymns
"All People That On Earth Do Dwell"
"All Creatures Of Our God And King"
"Just As I Am, Without One Plea"
Proper 19/Ordinary Time 24

Second Lesson: 1 Timothy 1:12-17
Theme: Gratitude For God's Mercy
Call To Worship
To the eternal King, immortal and invisible, the only God -- to him be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.
Come, let us worship our God!
Collect
Eternal God, though you are invisible, you have made yourself known to us through your Son, Jesus Christ, who lived and walked among us. We lift our voices in thanksgiving for this revelation of yourself, and for the assurance we have through Christ's death and resurrection that our sins are forgiven. All honor and glory be yours, O God, now and forever. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Ever-living God, you are more patient with us than we deserve. You know how often we have failed to show forth your love, and how many times our faith has been too weak to accomplish the work of your kingdom. Yet in your mercy you have not given up on us, and so we pray that your Holy Spirit will enable us to be faithful disciples as we strive to witness to your love and mercy. Amen.
Offertory Prayer
Heavenly Father, we present our gifts as a sign of our commitment, and with them we present ourselves as a symbol of our desire to serve you. Amen.
Hymns
"Father, We Thank You"
"There's A Wideness In God's Mercy"
"Amazing Grace"

Gospel Lesson: Luke 15:1-10
Theme: Rejoice When The Lost Are Found
Call To Worship
Leader: Our God is a loving God who rejoices whenever one of us who strays is brought back into the fold.
People: Praise be to God!
Leader: Our God is a persistent God who never gives up searching for those who are lost.
People: Praise be to God!
All: Let us worship our loving and persistent God, and let us celebrate with him when those who are lost are found.
Collect
Gracious Father, we celebrate with you the return of even one lost person who has wandered into the thickets of sin and has now come back into the fellowship of your Church. Most of us at one time or another have been in the same position and we give you thanks that through your Son, Jesus Christ, we have come to know your forgiveness. May every act of worship be for us a celebration of your mercy and love. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
O God, Jesus set us an example of how to live patiently and lovingly, but so often we choose to treat our neighbors differently. Forgive us, we pray, and strengthen our resolve to be loving, kind, and patient with everyone we encounter. Amen.
Offertory Prayer
Almighty God, many times we are tempted to give to your Church and your work from what is left over after we have spent our money on whatever we think is necessary for living. As we present our tithes and offerings today, may it be a reminder to each of us that we should make our gifts to you a top priority in what we consider important. Amen.
Hymns
"Rescue The Perishing"
"Softly And Tenderly Jesus Is Calling"
"The King Of Love My Shepherd Is"
