Proper 20
Worship
Lectionary Worship Aids
Series VI, Cycle A
Object:
Theme: Our Daily Bread
Call To Worship
The Lord says, "Come." Come, drink the water of life for the refreshment that truly satisfies. Come, eat the bread of life, for the satisfaction of your great yearnings. Come, share the wine of the Spirit, for the intoxication that gives lasting joy.
Invocation
Merciful God, we come to you this morning hungering for that "Bread of Life" which alone can truly satisfy us. We pray that you will take our apathy, our coldness of heart, our discouragement, and transform them by your spirit into enthusiasm, into hope, and into sacrificial love, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Confession
Lord, in our greedy society we find ourselves behaving like everyone else. We constantly want more. We are not satisfied with what we have. Forgive us, we pray, and teach us again the lesson of seeking "our daily bread," and the dangers of storing up worldly goods "where moth and rust corrupt." We pray in Jesus' name. Amen.
Offertory Prayer
O Lord, accept that which we offer you and increase its power to feed the hungry, comfort the destitute, and proclaim your Word as an instrument of grace in our world. Amen.
Hymns
"Great Is Thy Faithfulness"
"God Will Take Care Of You"
"Father, We Thank You"
