Series VII, Cycle C
Object:
Second Lesson: 1 Timothy 6:6-19
Theme: A Few Of My Favorite Things
Call To Worship
One: First things first.
All: Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance, gentleness (1 Timothy 6:11).
One: Last things last.
All: For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, and in their eagerness to be rich some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pains (1 Timothy 6:10).
One: Always remember.
All: If we have food and clothing, we will be content with these (1 Timothy 6:8).
One: Never forget.
All: For we brought nothing into the world, so that we can take nothing out of it (1 Timothy 6:7).
One And All: Fight the good fight of the faith; take hold of the eternal life, to which you were called and for which you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses (1 Timothy 6:12).
Collect
Lord, so many distractions, some of them blessed. Lord, so many disturbances, some of them terrible. From you, however, comes true peace, true happiness, true joy. As we struggle to chart a course through a world filled with blessedness and terror, we call upon you as our guiding light, and your word as a lamp unto our feet. Bless us in our worship today so we may go forth with full assurance of your presence and your power. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, we give back to you that which was always yours. We surrender not only a portion of our wealth, but the idolatry of our materialistic culture. We pledge to turn our eyes away from what we have to what the world needs, and our hearts from what we want to what your kingdom demands. We thank you for this time of giving. Amen.
Hymns
Praise To The Lord, The Almighty
A Charge To Keep I Have
Thou Art The Way
