Series III, Cycle A
CALL TO WORSHIP
Invoke the God of the Gospel by name. Our Creator and Redeemer will grant us new life in the Spirit.
PRAYER OF CONFESSION
God of Israel, God of the Church, God of all worlds, you gather your people in order to cultivate in them the fruits of justice and goodness. Too often we neglect our relationships in the community so that it looks like an untended vineyard. We do not sense the decline of faith and the loss of virtue that comes without the pruning disciplines of self-examination through the hearing of your word of judgment and salvation. Forgive our laxity that results in lack of spiritual fruitfulness that we should manifest in Jesus Christ. Amen.
DECLARATION OF GOD'S FORGIVENESS
Hear the Good News! God calls us to the life above in Christ Jesus. Friends, believe the Good News. In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven.
EXHORTATION
Forget what is behind you and reach out to that which lies ahead, the goal and the prize of heavenly glory in Christ Jesus.
PRAYER OF THE DAY
Cornerstone of the Church, remind us of who you are, that we may never reject you and your claims for our reverence and obedience, made known by prophets and apostles, who with us are built into an abiding structure for your service among the nations. Amen.
PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING
God of the many and the few, God of the weak and the strong, God of saints and sinners, we celebrate your patient care of your people in all times and places. We rejoice in your continuing patience with your people Israel. We are grateful for the broad inclusiveness of the church of your Son, Jesus. How rich is the spiritual heritage you have passed on to us through Judaism and the Christian church! How challenging is the honorable task you have given us to pass it on! Be near always to hear our thanksgiving with our prayers and petitions; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
PRAYER OF DEDICATION
Divine Sovereign, receive from us what is your due, not only these tokens from our hands, but the worship of our hearts, and the obedience of our daily lives and work, after the example of Jesus of Nazareth. Amen.
PSALM 19:1-14
The heavens are telling the glory of God;
and the firmament proclaims his handiwork.
Day to day pours forth speech, and night to night declares knowledge.
There is no speech, nor are there words; their voice is not heard;
yet their voice goes out through all the earth,
and their words to the end of the world.
In the heavens he has set a tent for the sun,
which comes out like a bridegroom from his wedding canopy,
and like a strong man runs its course with joy.
Its rising is from the end of the heavens,
and its circuit to the end of them; and nothing is hid from its heat.
The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul;
the decrees of the LORD are sure, making wise the simple;
the precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart;
the commandment of the LORD is clear, enlightening the eyes,
the fear of the LORD is pure, enduring forever;
the ordinances of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.
More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold;
sweeter also than honey, and drippings of the honeycomb.
Moreover by them is your servant warned;
in keeping them there is great reward.
But who can detect their errors?
Clear me from hidden faults.
Keep back your servant also from the insolent;
do not let them have dominion over me.
Then I shall be blameless, and innocent of great transgression.
Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart
he acceptable to you, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer.
