Psalms And Prayers For Congregational Participation
CALL TO WORSHIP
Let us sing of mercy and justice as we give sincere praise to God.
PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Universal Judge, we are appalled at the violence and devastation that is to be seen in our world. Does our pride and opinion contribute to strife and discord that escalates into confrontation and conflict? We find it simpler to question your patience with humanity than to take some responsibility for what we could do to calm the distressed, relieve the anger of the disturbed, or pacify the hostility of the aggressive. Forgive our lack of hope that the future could be better than the past and that our faithfulness could make some difference; through your ever-hopeful son, Jesus Christ. Amen
DECLARATION OF GOD'S FORGIVENESS
Hear the Good News! Our eternal salvation has been brought fully into view by the appearance on earth of our Savior, Jesus Christ, who has broken the power of death and brought immortality to light through the Gospel. Friends, believe the Good News. IN JESUS CHRIST, WE ARE FORGIVEN.
EXHORTATION
Stir into flame the glowing coals of the Spirit within you. The Spirit is given to you to inspire strength, love, and self-discipline.
PRAYER OF THE DAY
Liberating Lord, free us from self-imposed limitations that we may go on to do what we should as your faithful servants. Carrying out your orders, without expecting praise and satisfied to do our duty. Amen
PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING
Fountain of faith, your living waters flow down from holy heights to replenish our thirsting spirits. We are thankful for the faith of our ancestors and for the inheritance of forms of prayer and praise that still bring meaning to our lives. We are happy in the company of others of like precious faith who lift us out of doubt and depression and despair. Fill us with such joy in believing that our faith may be drunk in by thirsting neighbors, even the water of life, Jesus Christ. Amen
PRAYER OF DEDICATION
Resourceful God, our assets are not as limited as we sometimes believe. Help us to give and to use to the full all that you have given into our hands. Achieve the purposes you have had for our earth before the time of creation now fully disclosed in the advent of Christ Jesus of Nazareth. Amen
PSALM 101
I will sing of mercy and justice,
TO YOU, O LORD, WILL I SING PRAISES.
I will strive to follow a blameless course;
Oh, when will you come to me?
I WILL WALK WITH SINCERITY OF HEART WITHIN MY HOUSE.
I will set no worthless things before my eyes;
I HATE THE DOERS OF EVIL DEEDS; THEY SHALL NOT REMAIN WITH ME.
A crooked heart shall be far from me;
I WILL NOT KNOW EVIL.
Those who in secret slander their neighbors I will destroy;
THOSE WHO HAVE A HAUGHTY LOOK AND A PROUD HEART I CANNOT ABIDE.
My eyes are upon the faithful in the land, that they may dwell with me,
AND ONLY THOSE WHO LEAD A BLAMELESS LIFE SHALL BE MY SERVANTS.
Those who act deceitfully, shall not dwell in my house,
AND THOSE WHO TELL LIES SHALL NOT CONTINUE IN MY SIGHT.
I will soon destroy all the wicked in the land,
THAT I MAY ROOT OUT ALL EVILDOERS FROM THE CITY OF THE LORD.
Let us sing of mercy and justice as we give sincere praise to God.
