Series VII, Cycle C
Object:
First Lesson: Lamentations 1:1-6
Theme: The Real 9/11
Call To Worship
Oh, people, let us come together, mindful of misery but also of hope.
Collect
Lord, we know you uphold the righteous. We know that the heritage of the blameless will abide forever. But there are times when it seems that your justice is delayed. Grant us patience. Grant us the wisdom and courage to abide as your faithful people, while we wait for the vindication that will come with your Son's return. Though we stumble, we know we shall not fall headlong, for you hold us by the hand. You remain our refuge. You remain our strength. Fashion our worship so that we are more perfectly made in your image through the time we spend together. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
God of history, we confess that we have focused on our own wounds, which are real enough, and have ignored the true measure of suffering the world over. We have used ourselves as the measure of misery, not as your beloved children who have experienced depths we cannot even imagine. We turn from the idolatry of self-worship and see the world through your eyes. Grant us hope and allow us to be the bearer of that hope to others. Amen.
