Call to Worship (based on Psalm 99)
Leader: Let the peoples tremble! God sits enthroned upon the cherubim; let the earth quake!
People: God is great in Zion, and is exalted over all the peoples.
All: Let us praise your great and awesome name. Holy is God!
Prayer of Invocation
Gracious and humbling God, we wish we could see you and know that you are there. But we also tremble before so great a countenance and are content with knowing you are with us. Fill us with your glory as we worship together. Give us the Holy Spirit to keep our energy fresh to worship you and to tell others about your goodness. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
Scripture Readings
Exodus 33:12--23; Psalm 99: The Exodus passage and the Psalm can be read continuously. The congregation will have a part in it. Have the congregation open their Bibles to Psalm 99 and to be prepared to read when it is their turn, which is indicated by Left Side and Right Side. Use a choral speaking choir, also.

Voice 5: Moses said to the Lord,
Voices 1--6: See, you have said to me, "Bring up this people"; but you have not let me know whom you will send with me. Yet you have said, "I know you by name, and you have also found favor in my sight." Now if I have found favor in your sight, show me your ways, so that I may know you and find favor in your sight. Consider too that this nation is your people.
Voice 12: God said,
Voices 7--12: My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.
Voice 6: And Moses said to him,
Voices 1--6: If your presence will not go, do not carry us up from here. For how shall it be known that I have found favor in your sight, I and your people, unless you go with us? In this way, we shall be distinct, I and your people, from every people on the face of the earth.
Voice 11: God said to Moses,
Voices 7--12: I will do the very thing that you have asked; for you have found favor in my sight, and I know you by name.
Voice 3: Moses said,
Voices 1--6: Show me your glory, I pray.
Voice 10: And God said,
Voices 7--12: I will make all my goodness pass before you and will proclaim before you the name, "Yahweh," and I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show mercy on whom I will show mercy. But you cannot see my face; for no one shall see me and live. See, there is a place by me where you shall stand on the rock; and while my glory passes by I will put you in a cleft of the rock, and I will cover you with my hand until I have passed by; then I will take away my hand, and you shall see my back; but my face shall not be seen.
Right Side: The Lord is king; let the peoples tremble! He sits enthroned upon the cherubim; let the earth quake.
Left Side: The Lord is great in Zion; he is exalted over all the peoples.
Right Side: Let them praise your great and awesome name. Holy is he!
Left Side: Mighty King, lover of justice, you have established equity; you have executed justice and righteousness in Jacob.
All: Extol the Lord our God; worship at his footstool. Holy is he!
Voices 1--6: Moses and Aaron were among his priests, Samuel also was among those who called on his name. They cried to the Lord, and he answered them.
Voices 7--12: He spoke to them in the pillar of cloud; they kept his decrees, and the statutes that he gave them.
All: O Lord our God, you answered them; you were a forgiving God to them, but an avenger of their wrongdoings. Extol the Lord our God, and worship at his holy mountain; for the Lord our God is holy.
Matthew 22:15--22: A storyteller might do the Matthew passage. It is short and familiar and could easily be memorized. Some of the verses have even come into modern vernacular.
Call to Offering
Jesus said, "Render to Caesar what is Caesar's, and render to God the things that are God's." Let us now bring our gifts and offerings to do God's work into the world. The ushers will wait upon us for the morning offering.
Prayer of Dedication
Loving God, sometimes the best way for people to know you is from knowing people who do your work. May this offering be used today to help those who provide food for the hungry, housing for the homeless, care for the sick and suffering, and help the unemployed to find meaningful work. Help the helpless to see your face in this way. Amen.
Benediction
Leader: God, as you went with the people of Israel through the wilderness and into the promised land, go with us into our own wilderness of a people and a culture that don't know you. May God our Creator give us fortitude, Jesus our Redeemer be our guide, and the energy of the Holy Spirit carry us through until we meet again. Peace be with you.
People: And also with you. (Pass the peace)
