Cycle B, Series IV
Call To Worship
Leader: Let the universe resound with praise before the Lord God Almighty!
People: God is the wonderful Creator and Sustainer of the universe.
Leader: There is no power in all of creation like the power of the Almighty God.
People: Not in heaven or on earth is there an equal to God's infinite power.
Leader: Then let every knee bow and every heart sound forth in loving praise.
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
O God, when we consider the vastness of the universe we begin to comprehend how special we are to receive Your love and be made welcome in Your kingdom. Truly we love and praise You, Lord. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, so often we have taken for granted the whole of creation and treated it as if we had a right to do whatever we pleased with it. And we have even tried to ignore the fact that You are truly the Creator God of all the universe as we continue to live our lives each in our own self-centered way. Forgive us, Lord, and lead us back into Your loving fold. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"How Great Thou Art"
"Holy, Holy, Holy"
"Open My Eyes, That I May See"
Proper 24
Sunday between October 16 and October 22 inclusive
Second Lesson: Hebrews 5:1-10
Theme: Jesus, our Savior and high priest called of God
Call To Worship
Leader: Come, all who are grateful for God's mercy and grace, and let us worship!
People: Christ is our high priest and on the cross our sins were made clean.
Leader: Jesus was called by God to lead us out of our sins into the light.
People: And we are each one called of God to spread the Good News of Christ.
Leader: Then let our voices shout out and our lives proclaim the love of God.
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
O God, You have been so merciful with us, even to the point of allowing Christ to die on the cross that we might fully understand how much You love us. Lord, help us share Your love today. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, somehow in today's world we have allowed ourselves to seek our salvation through our own means and not through our only true Savior, Christ. Too often we would seek salvation in our busy lifestyles, until the years add up and we come to realize we have sought the wrong things. Forgive us, Lord, and help us keep our focus on Your will for our lives. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"O For A Thousand Tongues To Sing"
"I Would Be True"
"Just As I Am"
Proper 24
Sunday between October 16 and October 22 inclusive
Gospel: Mark 10:35-45
Theme: Called to be servants
Call To Worship
Leader: Let all who have gathered this day hear the Lord's call to service.
People: Is there greatness to be achieved in the service of the Lord?
Leader: Yes, but the rewards are eternal and not just of this world.
People: Must we toil long and hard serving others to receive God's blessing?
Leader: To serve with Christ, one must be willing to be the servant of all.
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
O God, You have been so merciful with us, even to the point of allowing Christ to die on the cross so that we might fully understand how much You love us. Lord, help us share Your love today. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, so often when You would have had us serve we have found excuses to turn away. In our minds, our pride or simply wanting to do the things we wanted to do was more important than serving You. You have brought us those who needed help, but we would not give it; others who needed a word of comfort, but we were silent. Forgive us, Lord, and use us now. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"Help Somebody Today"
"Others"
"O Master, Let Me Walk With Thee"
