Series VI, Cycle A
Object:
Words Of Assurance
Hear the Good News: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, to forgive you in your failures, to accept you as you are, to set you free from evil's power, and make you what you were meant to be.
Pastoral Prayer
God of grace, we celebrate today that in the cross and resurrection of Jesus, you have begun something new with us. You have broken the grip of sin and selfishness, you have showered us with undeserved forgiveness. Your Spirit moves among us -- in our homes and in our communities, in our nation and in distant places -- impatient to conquer evil and renew creation. Catch us up in your plan, O God. Heal us by your grace and make us agents of your mercy.
As at the day of Pentecost, we pray that we may be transformed by your Spirit's coming upon us, taking away our fears, making us bold to face the enemies of Christ, and giving us power to present a convincing witness that in Jesus Christ you have reconciled the world to yourself. Give unto us a personal story to tell and lips that proclaim it with joy and certainty. Enliven our concerns for lost souls who stumble through the darkness of fear and hopelessness, often disoriented by shame and guilt, alienated, painfully alone, with none to love and care.
We remember with gratitude, O God, all messengers of your Word who through stormy seas and perilous paths brought the gospel to our land. Without this precious heritage we could not this hour rejoice in the gift of your life and love. Bestow upon us strength and courage that our faith and deeds may become consistent witness to all who watch our ways. May those who do not love you be persuaded by your truth and those who do not know you, find in Christ life's deepest thirst satisfied. Impart to us the worldwide vision of the Spirit which belongs to your disciples.
We pray in the holy name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Benediction
Rejoice always, for you are God's own people. May your lives daily be filled with his grace, mercy, and peace; and the blessing of God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit be with you always. Amen.
