A Call To Worship
Worship Aids, Lectionary Year B
Call To Worship (based on Revelation 1:8)
"I am the Alpha and the Omega," says the Lord God, who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.
Let all mortal flesh keep silence, and with fear and trembling stand.
Ponder nothing earthly minded, for with blessing in his hand
Christ our God to earth descendeth, our full homage to demand.
Rank on rank the host of heaven spreads its vanguard on the way,
as the Light of light descendeth from the realms of endless day,
that the pow'rs of hell may vanish as the darkness clears away.
At his feet the six-winged seraph, cherubim with sleepless eye,
veil their faces to the Presence, as with ceaseless voice they cry,
"Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia, Lord Most High!"
(Liturgy of St. James of Jerusalem, fifth c.; translated by Gerard Moultrie, Lyra Eucharistica, second edition, 1864)
Unison Prayer
Now we praise you, now we raise our voices, now the ways of your mercy are revealed to us. Christ the King we gladly sing of, now you bring love to us here. What we guess as through a glass that is dark will soon bless in revealed glory as the story which we tell to the nations is proven true. Amen.
Morning Prayer
Lord, hear our many prayers today. We sorrow with those who are suffering, and rejoice with those who are glad. We lift up those who face trials and ask your blessings for those who have endured difficult times. Bless us as your family in all our experiences. Amen.
Offering Prayer
God of time, the liturgical year is ending, even though our worldly calendar does not keep pace. Eternity is measured by a different clock, and none of us knows when the hour will strike and your glory will appear. In our offerings today we seek, by supporting your work, to make that veiled glory visible, if only a pale reflection, that others may seek you as we seek you. Hallow our offerings and make them an instrument of your peace. Amen.
Children's Benediction
Look! He is coming with the clouds!
