Lectionary Worship Aids
Cycle B, Series IV
Call To Worship
Leader: Let all who have been redeemed by the Lord come now for worship!
People: For once we were without hope and the Lord restored in us the light.
Leader: Christ has redeemed all who will be servants to Almighty God.
People: We serve the Lord and we are called to serve all who are needy around us.
Leader: Then let our hearts be filled with joy as we lift our praises to God.
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
O God, in Your infinite wisdom You have taught us our joy is fulfilled only when we accept Your redemption through Christ. Lead us, O Lord, to carry Your redeeming word to all nations. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, so often we have denied our need for redemption and have felt we are capable of meeting our own needs. We have even allowed ourselves to follow the world by turning each one to our own way instead of accepting Your leadership in our lives. Forgive us, Lord; with Your help we can help others find their role in Your holy kingdom. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"I Will Sing Of My Redeemer"
"There Is A Fountain Filled With Blood"
"Beneath The Cross Of Jesus"
Proper 27
Sunday between November 6 and November 12 inclusive
Second Lesson: Hebrews 9:24-28
Theme: Christ our perfect redeemer
Call To Worship
Leader: Let the hills resound with the music of God's people gathered for worship.
People: We have much to celebrate and our praises for the Lord are long.
Leader: We have been redeemed by the Christ, who was totally sinless and perfect.
People: And even now Christ is with God and not limited by human constraints.
Leader: Let our voices be lifted in praise for God's perfect redemption.
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
O merciful and loving God, in Your divine wisdom You chose to redeem us even when we were yet living in the sins of the world. We praise You, Lord, and ask You to help us share Your Word. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
O Lord, sometimes in our pride we have refused to admit our personal need for redemption. Too often, Lord, we have tried to blame others for our sins and failures rather than be responsible for our own mistakes. Forgive us, Lord, and help us to be more responsible to ourselves, to others, and most importantly, to You. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"He Lives"
"Come, Thou Fount"
"Lord, I Want To Be A Christian"
Proper 27
Sunday between November 6 and November 12 inclusive
Gospel: Mark 12:38-44
Theme: The widow's mite
Call To Worship
Leader: Come, let us worship in the house of the Lord!
People: We come singing praise and bringing our tithes and offerings.
Leader: Jesus, equal with God, emptied Himself for our sake to give life.
People: What may we give to the Lord in return for this gift of love?
Leader: All that you are or ever will be: your praise, your love and your life.
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
O merciful God, in Your infinite wisdom You have called each one of us to be stewards of all those things you place in our care. Guide us, Lord, and give us wisdom to be faithful stewards. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, so often we try to substitute material gifts for our love. You seek our hearts, yet we would give You only "things," if we give at all. You would give us eternal life, but we would hold on to this life in this moment instead. Forgive us, Lord, and lead us to reach out in faith to follow You and learn to truly love. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"Wonderful Words Of Life"
"My Hope Is Built"
"Take My Life"
