Words Of Assurance
Have confidence in the Lord, who can forgive your sins, restore your sense of values, and give you eternal life. Amen.
Pastoral Prayer
O Lord, you have promised that, if with all our hearts we truly seek you, we shall surely find you. With all our hearts we seek you now. Loose us from whatever worries and distractions have pursued us here, that we may focus all our power to think, to will, to do -- on you. We are frail children of time and fate, here today, tomorrow gone -- weak men and women dependent on your patience. But we believe we are also your children, heirs of the eternal, fitted for communion with you, with spirits as lasting as your own. In this high faith we lift our prayer to you.
We thank you for your goodness to us. May we try more consistently to deserve it. We thank you for treating us better than we deserve. Help us to treat each other in the same way.
We need your forgiveness, Lord. We have done things we ought not to have done. We cannot plead ignorance. We knew what was right and did what we knew was wrong. We ask you to forgive us what we can hardly forgive ourselves. We have left undone things we might have done and done well. Impel us to stir up the gift that is in us, to take whatever talent you have entrusted to us and use it to the full. We need your cleansing. Deeds unkind, words untrue, thoughts unclean -- the stain of these is on us all. When we contrast our moral shabbiness with your holiness, we are ashamed. Create in us a clean mind, a clean imagination. What in us is dark, illumine. What is low, raise and support. We need your reinforcement. We do not ask to escape sorrows which are a part of life. We ask only assurance that in your divine economy nothing good is lost.
Now come close to us one by one. Be real to each one gathered here, and may there come peace out of anxiety, steadfastness out of turmoil, forgiveness out of guilt, strength out of weakness, faith instead of fear. We ask it in the spirit of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Amen.
Benediction
May the mighty God bless and keep you forever. May he give you his strength in every endeavor. May his Spirit always guide and uphold you, and may his love forever enfold you. Go in peace, and the blessing of God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit go with you. Amen.
Have confidence in the Lord, who can forgive your sins, restore your sense of values, and give you eternal life. Amen.
