Lectionary Worship Aids
Series V, Cycle C
First Lesson: Isaiah 65:17-25
Theme: A Joy And A Delight
Call To Worship
Leader: What are you up to, God? What do you have in mind with this talk about creating new heavens and a new earth?
People: You always come to us in the way that we need, O God.
Leader: You have a way of restoring order to a chaotic world, God. You have a way of implanting new beauty of your truth within our hearts.
People: You, O God, always bring to us an understanding, though we cannot always express that knowing with words.
All: Receive our joy and delight, O holy Artist, through the art of our hands, ideas, and actions.
Collect
You teach us, O God, that we are part of your delight. You show us your on-going creation happens not for your pleasure alone, but to bring smiles to human faces as well. Thanks be to you, O God. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Your words carry the promise of our yearnings, O God. We want our energy to bear fruit, not to be squandered. We need results, rather than miscarriages, of our effort. Dare we hope for a world that nourishes peace like a tender parent attends a newborn? Dare we hope, O God, that a human cry of distress will turn into a song of justice? Dare we enjoy the thought of a whole, healthy, and secure life? Show us what you have in mind, O God. Amen.
63C Hymns
"Joyful, Joyful, We Adore [Thee][You]" Tune: HYMN TO JOY
"Be [Now][Thou] My Vision" Tune: SLANE
"God The Omnipotent" Tune: RUSSIAN HYMN

Leader: Let us know the satisfaction of doing high quality work.
People: Let us value staying with a task until we finish it.
Leader: Let us view our work as an important part of a bigger plan.
People: Let us be willing workers.
Collect
We celebrate with you, O God, work we have done well, no matter how insignificant it appears to others. We rejoice in hands, mind, and other tools you have given us for carrying out our work. We bring you our thanksgiving when we show persistence in practicing and honing the skills we have learned. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
When our work loses its luster, O God, teach us then is the time to bring out the polishing cloth. When our enthusiasm wilts, teach us then is the time to approach the job from a new viewpoint. When we would rather just stop what we are doing, show us a reason to continue. Amen.
