Worship
Lectionary Worship Aids
Series VII, Cycle C
Object:
First Lesson: Isaiah 65:17-25
Theme: Sweeping Changes
Call To Worship (built around Isaiah 65:21-23)
Let us build houses and inhabit them; let us plant vineyards and eat their fruit. Let us not labor in vain. Receive the blessing of the Lord!
Collect
Good and gracious God, we thank you today for the evidence all around us of the faithfulness and hard work of your people! Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord of the garden, God of the fields, you have pledged that we shall in your time reap what is yours, and that all will share the results of hard work and labor. So many labor for others and reap nothing. Workers in sweat shops, virtual slaves in the pastures of plenty, those who labor to feed others around the globe and are paid pennies for what is killing them, this is what angers you, Lord, this is what stalls your kingdom. We have been complacent about the source of our goods and never questioned the means of their manufacture. We have comforted ourselves in our ignorance and satisfied ourselves at their expense. We are one family as you are one God. Their welfare is ours. We confess our sins. We pray for your intervention and our own action. Amen.
