Exploring The Message
The Lord is king, he is robed in majesty;
the Lord is robed, he is girded with strength.
He has established the world;
it shall never be moved;
your throne is established from of old;
you are from everlasting.
The floods have lifted up, O Lord,
the floods have lifted up their voice;
the floods lift up their roaring.
More majestic than the thunders of mighty waters,
more majestic than the waves of the sea,
majestic on high is the Lord!
Your decrees are very sure;
holiness befits your house, O Lord, forevermore.

"Captain Singer meet Captain Opposition. Captain Opposition
meet Captain Singer ..." So the Singer meets the opposing captain
of the team his team is to play. He is proud that he has been
selected the captain of his team. He likes the authority and the
power. On the field he is in control. Even the coach has no
control over him. His teammates must do as he says. He is their
captain, their quarterback. He loves it.
Back in the huddle the Singer barks his instructions to his
team. He chews out teammates when they don't perform to his
expectations. He yells and complains to the referees when calls
don't go his way. As the game goes against them, the Singer yells
and screams all the more and blames his team.
Back in the locker room the team turns to the coach. As a
person they say, "We elected him captain, now we want to unelect
him." The coach agrees and benches the captain for the next half.
After the game the Singer goes to the team and the coach and
apologizes for his rotten behavior. He asks for a second chance
to play with them and to work with them. They say, "We'll see."
Reflection
There is a strong possibility that the kings of the line of
David were given the throne anew each year in a ceremony of re-
enthronement. A couple of reasons support this concept. If the
king was not doing a good job they might not want to keep him in
that position. It was also a reminder that the real king was
always God and the king was to serve the people on God's behalf,
a good program to keep that highest official humble.
When we are given authority and status in church it is always
good for us to have reminders as to just whose church it is.
Churches are never "my church" or even "the people's church" they
are God's church. When we are given authority we are to use that
authority to be servants of the church as the king of Israel was
the servant of the people. We are to be servants as Christ
instructed and showed us.
