Lectionary Worship Aids
Cycle B, Series IV
Call To Worship
Leader: Let us gather together for worship and to hear the word of the Lord!
People: For we do not live by bread alone, but we seek God's Word for life.
Leader: Let us seek God's Word together and each day alone in personal prayer.
People: That we might each know and do the will of the Lord each and every day.
Leader: And if we live for Christ, one day we will hear our Lord say, "Well done!"
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
O God, in Your infinite wisdom You have called each one of us to serve and be a part of Your kingdom. Lord, help us have the ears to hear Your call and the courage to respond to all that You ask. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
O God, so often we have lived our lives with no concern for any personal call You might have for us. Too often, Lord, we have kept ourselves busy in the world so we would not have time to hear You. Forgive us, Lord, and help us have the courage to stop and listen and seek out Your word. And then, O God, give us the strength to be Your people in today's world. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"I Am Thine, O Lord"
"Have Thine Own Way, Lord"
"I Surrender All"
Proper 4
Sunday between May 29 and June 4 inclusive
Second Lesson: 2 Corinthians 4:5-12
Theme: Humble bond-servants of Christ
Call To Worship
Leader: Praise to the Lord, our redeemer and Savior! Praise to Almighty God!
People: For we were once lost and did not know true life,
Leader: But in Christ we have been forgiven and washed clean before the Lord.
People: Our debt is so large and we have so little, we are bond-servants to God.
Leader: But we are bond-servants of love and honored members of the family of God.
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
O God, Your ways are truly not our ways. In the Cross, our instrument of torture and death, You chose to give us life and salvation. We owe You so much, Lord, and we give You our praise. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
O Lord, so often we have received Your gifts of mercy and grace as if we deserved them and they were ours without obligation. Too often, Lord, we have even forgotten how it was Christ who paid the price for our redemption and that it is to You we owe our very lives. Forgive us, Lord, and call us again as Your humble servants to carry Your Good News into the World. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"Forward Through The Ages"
"Open My Eyes"
"Work For The Night Is Coming"
Proper 4
Sunday between May 29 and June 4 inclusive
Gospel: Mark 2:23-3:6
Theme: Lord of the Sabbath
Call To Worship
Leader: Come, let us gather together all who know the strength of the Lord!
People: For in our weakness is God's glory most clear.
Leader: For none of us stand perfect before the presence of the Lord.
People: Yet through God's mercy and grace we are each most welcome and loved.
Leader: Then let us lift our voices in praise and song for God's love!
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
O God, in Your loving wisdom You gave us Laws, but we did not understand and made the Laws too rigid. Then You sent us the Christ so that we might finally see how to live by love. We praise You, Lord. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, how often we ask You to make us perfect before we can share the good news of Your love with the world. And how often we cry out for You to meet our conditions instead of trusting and stepping out in faith where You would have us go. Forgive us, Lord, and give us the courage to share our weaknesses so that others might see Your strength and love. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"Grace That Is Greater Than All My Sin"
"God Of The Sparrow, God Of The Whale"
"My Faith Looks Up To Thee"
