Lectionary Worship Aids
Series V, Cycle A
First Lesson: Genesis 6:11-12; 7:24; 8:14-19
Theme: Arks Of Faith
Call To Worship
God shows interest in every detail. God wanted the ark that safeguarded his creation to be right. Representatives of all God's creatures were on that ark. God's will is for survival. Thanks be to God.
Collect
You said, O God, each day that your creation was good. Thank you for discerning continued worth and possibility in your creation, for seeing us through all assortments of calamity. We praise you for your endless creativity. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
You have taught us, steadfast Creator, how to build arks of faith. You show us your infinite care with careful instructions. You show us that the survival of faith is not automatic but requires planning, nurture, and dedication. Lead us, O God, toward taking an ever deepening sense of ownership as we do our part to keep alive the important covenants between you and humankind. Amen.
39A Hymns

Proper 4

Second Lesson: Romans 1:16-17; 3:22b-28 (29-31)
Theme: The Law Of Faith
Call To Worship
Leader: The power of God is for salvation to everyone who has faith, to the divorced parent, couples with struggling relationships, the almost retirees trying to hold on, the teenager wondering about the future, persons with unusual or alternative lifestyles, those searching for meaning.
People: God's power for salvation is for everyone who has faith.
Leader: God calls us to have faith. Come, worship, be reassured along your journey, and know a strengthening of your faith.
Collect
Gracious, all-powerful God, who cares enough for us to have a plan for our future and a design for our lives, hear the quiet movement of our hearts toward faith. In the name of Jesus the Christ. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
All: We worry that God will abandon us because we fall short of our expectations and of God's expectations of us. Our lives are filled with the violence of killing thoughts, self-defeating attitudes, and faithless actions. Our ways are corrupt. We stray from our ideals or set ideals so high we do not attempt to meet them. Teach us how to build arks of faith.
Leader: All have sinned and all do not deserve God's praise. Still, we are now justified by God's grace as a gift because of what happened on the cross. So have faith and be faithful.
All: Amen.
39A Hymns
"O Jesus, I Have Promised" Tune: ANGEL'S STORY
"I Would Be True" [3 verses in NCH] or [2 verses in PH] Tune: PEEK
"Children Of God" OR "O Brother Man, Fold To Thy Heart" Tune: WELWYN or INTERCESSOR
Proper 4
Sunday between May 29 and June 4 inclusive
Gospel: Matthew 7:21-29
Theme: Rock Solid
Call To Worship
The most beautiful sanctuary will crumble if built on prestige, self-indulgence, or wrong reasons. Come, people of God, come to church for the right reasons. Be God's steady and steadfast church.
Collect
We are here, O God, to learn about your will for us and for this church. May your will be done. May this church stay as solid as the rock upon which it was founded. In the name of Christ. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
We go off on our own tangents when what we need to do is return to you, O God. Help us to quiet our agendas so we can listen to your words and hear them with enough clarity to act wisely on them. Reassure us that, while temporary distresses threaten, they can not ultimately destroy what is firm. Amen.
39A Hymns
"Built On The Rock The Church Doth Stand" Tune: KIRKEN DEN ER ET
"O Master Workman Of The Race" Tune: KINGSFOLD
"O Word Of God Incarnate" Tune: MUNICH
