Series VI, Cycle C
First Lesson: 1 Kings 21:1-21a
Theme: Evil Deeds Lead To Destruction
Call To Worship
Leader: Listen to my words, O Lord, and hear my sighs.
People: Listen to my cry for help, my God and king.
Leader: I pray to you, O Lord; you hear my voice in the morning.
People: At sunrise I offer my prayer and wait for your answer.
All: Make your way plain for me to follow. Amen.
Collect
Heavenly Father, we give you thanks for the hope that sustains us along life's journey, and for the hope that keeps us determined to serve you in all that we do. Through your Son, Jesus Christ, you have given us the Light that guides us day by day, and the love that comforts us in time of sorrow. Above all, through Jesus we have been assured of that forgiveness that frees us from past sins and enables us to stand in your presence. Thanks be to you, O God. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, when greed and selfishness overtake us, and we become determined to gratify our own desires without concern for others, may your Holy Spirit protect us and remind us that unless we change our ways, we are on the path that leads to destruction. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
Offertory Prayer
O God, give to us generous hearts and concern for the needs of others as we present these offerings that the Church which Jesus Christ founded may continue his ministry here on earth. Amen.
Hymns
"Come, Sinner, To The Gospel Feast"
"Stand By Me"
"Lord, I Want To Be A Christian"

Second Lesson: Galatians 2:15-21
Theme: Getting Right With God
Call To Worship
Leader: God is not pleased with wrongdoing; he cannot stand the sight of the proud.
People: God does not like the wicked, and despises violent, deceitful people.
Leader: But because of his great love we can come into his house.
People: We can worship in his holy Temple, and bow down to him in reverence. Amen.
Collect
Everlasting God, merciful and mighty, we come to worship you and give thanks for your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. It is through faith in him that we are put right with you, O Lord, and not by keeping any set of rules or laws. Our faith in Jesus has given us new life, and as we worship we pray for the power of the Holy Spirit to keep us living lives that are acceptable to you. In Jesus'Êname. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Holy God, we try to keep your commandments, and live the good life, but we know that the one thing we often lack is total commitment. Help us, Lord, to accept your forgiveness, and to live the new life totally committed to you. We pray in Jesus' name. Amen.
Offertory Prayer
Lord, with these gifts we are not trying to buy our way into eternal life with you. We know that cannot be done. These offerings are symbols, God, of our total commitment to you and your kingdom. Bless them and us, we pray, as we strive to help others get right with you. Amen.
Hymns
"What Shall I Render To My God?"
"My Jesus, I Love Thee"
"O How I Love Jesus"

Gospel Lesson: Luke 7:36--8:3
Theme: Showing Gratitude For Forgiveness
Call To Worship
Leader: Let us come before the Lord, our God, with songs of praise.
People: Let us show our gratitude for God's forgiveness by living lives dedicated to serving the outcasts, the poor, and the lonely.
Leader: Come, let us worship God, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Amen.
Collect
Merciful God, we come into your presence with songs of praise and thanksgiving for your forgiveness. You have given this to us freely, and nothing we can do will ever be able to repay you. Send us out from this time of worship with hearts filled with gratitude and lives dedicated to sharing your saving word in Jesus Christ. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Almighty God, we are quick to accept your forgiveness for our sins, but often are slow to forgive those who have sinned against us. Through your Holy Spirit working in us, help us to see that until we truly have a forgiving heart we have not truly let the love of Jesus into our lives. Amen.
Offertory Prayer
Heavenly Father, accept these gifts, we pray, as evidence of our gratitude for your many blessings, and use them to advance your kingdom, that all people may dwell together in peace. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
