Proper 7
Worship
Lectionary Worship Aids
Series VI, Cycle A
Object:
Theme: Even In Our Distress, God Is There
Call To Worship
Leader: God is our refuge and strength,
People: a very present help in trouble.
Leader: Therefore we will not fear
People: though the earth should change, and the mountains shake.
Leader: God is in the midst of us.
People: The Lord of hosts is with us. Amen.
Invocation
As we gather in the quietness and beauty of this place, we are overwhelmed with a sense of thankful awe. We rejoice in the knowledge that you have made us, O God, for something great and eternal, and that daily you equip us for service. We bless you, Lord, for the assurance that we will never slip away from your care, and we anticipate the miracle of spiritual discovery. Amen.
Confession
O God, like the Psalmist of old, and our Lord upon the cross, we cry out, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from helping me, from the words of my groaning?" By the power of your Holy Spirit cleanse us from all distrust and faithlessness. Restore in us the confidence of the Psalmist who was able to say you "did not despise or abhor the affliction of the afflicted, and (you) did not hide (your) face from me." Amen.
Offertory Prayer
O God, we know you call us for service, and you bless us in order that we may be a blessing for others. With that sense of high calling, we present our tithes and offerings. Amen.
Hymns
"Be Still, My Soul"
"God Will Take Care Of You"
"He Leadeth Me: O Blessed Thought"
