Gospel Lesson: Luke 8:26-39

Call To Worship (based on Psalm 22:19-28)
All: But you, O Lord, do not be far away! O my help, come quickly to my aid!
Younger: I will tell of your name to my brothers and sisters; in the midst of the congregation I will praise you:
Older: You who fear the Lord, praise him! Glorify him; stand in awe of him, all you offspring of Israel!
All: For he did not despise or abhor the affliction of the afflicted; he did not hide his face from me, but heard when I cried to him.
Women: From you comes my praise in the great congregation; my vows I will pay before those who fear him.
Men: The poor shall eat and be satisfied; those who seek him shall praise the Lord. May your hearts live forever!
All: All the ends of the earth shall remember and turn to the Lord; and all the families of the nations shall worship before him.
One: For dominion belongs to the Lord, and he rules over the nations.
Collect
Lord, we proclaim your rule in a world that struggles to recognize you. We have seen you act in our midst, and we have this testimony to give -- that you, O Lord, take the part of the poor and the afflicted and the oppressed. In our worship today we seek to glorify you and imitate. Fill our hearts with your Spirit. Move among us, and inspire us. Bless us in our gathering and in our going. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, our problems are legion. Our concerns, both spoken and unspoken, mount up, and we pray, knowing that you hear our cry and seek to remedy our ills. The joys you offer are limitless, and the salvation you bring is for everyone. Bless us that we might hear and demonstrate action and concern in imitation of your love for us. Hear us. Heal us. Amen.
