A pastor asked a friend if he would be willing to substitute in the pulpit of his church on a certain Sunday morning. The friend agreed to do so.
The friend came to the church and told the congregation he was like a piece of cardboard someone might stuff in a window if the glass had been broken. He would serve as a substitute.
After the service, as a woman was shaking hands with him, she said, "You were no substitute; you were a real pane (pain)!"
