Second Sunday Of Advent
Worship
Lectionary Worship Aids
Series VI, Cycle A
Object:
Theme: The Peaceful Kingdom
Call To Worship
As we prepare for the coming of the Christ Child let us also prepare our hearts and minds for the coming of "The Peaceful Kingdom." The prophet Isaiah said: "The wolf shall live with the lamb... the calf and the lion together, and a little child shall lead them." Come, let us praise God for the coming of that Child!
Invocation
Come, Christ Jesus, be our guest, and may our lives by you be blest! Come, God-with-us, and free us from false claims of the empires of this world. We are lonely for you and your peace. Come, Emmanuel, and dwell with us. Make us your people indeed, the people through whom you bring love and justice to the world. Amen.
Confession
O Lord, our God, we pray for the coming of your Peaceful Kingdom here on earth, but we bow before you this day with penitent hearts because we have been more a part of the problem than an instrument of your peace. We have not loved you as we ought, nor have we loved our neighbors as ourselves. Forgive us, we pray, and empower us to work for that Peaceful Kingdom, we pray in the name of the Prince of Peace, even Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Offertory Prayer
O God, during this season in which we celebrate your love as expressed in the gift of your Son, it is with great joy and thanksgiving that we present our offerings to you that they may be used to bring word of your love to those who still live in darkness. By the power of your Holy Spirit may they be instrumental in bringing the Peaceful Kingdom a little closer. Amen.
Hymns
"O Come, O Come, Emmanuel"
"O Day Of Peace That Dimly Shines"
