Second Sunday Of Advent
Worship
Lectionary Worship Aids
Series VI, Cycle A
Object:
Theme: The God Of Hope
Call To Worship
Leader: Let us prepare for the coming of the Lord.
People: We would be expectant, believing his promise.
Leader: Let us be diligent, faithful until the end.
People: We will be happy, celebrating his blessings.
Invocation
O God, who has set before us the great hope that your kingdom shall come on earth, and has taught us to pray for its coming, make us ever ready to thank you for the signs of its dawning, and to pray and work for that perfect day when your will shall be done on earth as it is in heaven; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Confession
O God, we give you thanks for the gift of love which you have bestowed upon us with the coming of your Son, Jesus Christ, whose birth we are preparing to celebrate. We know that nothing can separate us from your love, for your love is stronger than all the forces of evil. Forgive us, therefore, when we doubt the power of your love, and trust instead in the power of might, the weapons of war and destruction. Strengthen our convictions and make us instruments of your peace. Amen.
Offertory Prayer
As those who watch and wait for the unfolding of God's promise of justice and integrity, we feel privilege and awe in offering our gifts and ourselves this day. Bless these gifts and those who share them; bless their use near and far, in the name of Jesus the Christ. Amen.
Hymns
"Hail To The Lord's Anointed One"
"Hope Of The World"
