Second Sunday Of Advent

Series VI, Cycle A
Object:
Words Of Assurance
The Lord looks upon you with love, remembering your iniquities no more, and filling your life with all good things.
Pastoral Prayer
"Angels announce with shouts of mirth,
Him who brings new life to earth.
Set every peak and valley humming
with the word, the Lord is coming."
It is our prayer, O Lord, that your divine presence may not be obscured during the busyness and beauty of this season. Among the lights of Christmas, may we see the Light of the World. Among the jingles of Christmas, may we hear the songs of angels. Among the gifts of Christmas, may we receive the greatest gift. Among the confusion of Christmas, may we feel the peace of God. Among the tinsel of Christmas, may we see the beauty of holiness. Among the crowds of Christmas, may we see the face of Jesus.
During this Advent season let us behold the full glory and wonder of your love shining forth from the face of a babe nestled in the bosom of his mother, Mary, and guarded by the faithful Joseph. They were even more important to your plan than the shepherds and the Wise Men. Thank you for the beautiful picture of family love and devotion that this holy family still inspires. As we focus our family activities on the celebration of Jesus' birth, help us to find serenity in the midst of rushing, new surrender to the Christ even as we engage in Christmas traditions. Free us to sing with our friends hopeful songs of peace and good will, to dance with joyful delight, and to savor the freshness and warmth of new intimacy and life because Jesus Christ, the Lord of Life, is born again in us. Let us love you so much that we shall no longer have room for irrational fears and impulses that lead us astray and set us against one another. Let us not wallow in self-pity or wistful sadness when memories of former days and departed loved ones rush in upon us. Release us to reach out in love to those who need our friendship, and to bring cheer to someone whose heart will be empty without the warmth of our thoughtful words and gifts. May nothing ever separate us from your Son, whose birth we shall soon celebrate.
We pray all this in the name of your holy child, Jesus of Nazareth. Amen.
Benediction
As the followers of Christ, go forth now to become the instruments of his peace, the embodiment of his concern, the voices of his comfort, and the hands of his caring; and God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit go with you. Amen.
