Lectionary Worship Aids
Series V, Cycle A
First Lesson: Isaiah 49:1-7
Theme: From Your Beginning
Call To Worship
Leader: Before you were born, the Creator knew about you and named you as God's own. From your beginning, God has been your strength. You are chosen to be God's light to other people. Your charge is to tell by what you say and what you do that our saving God is active in your life and in theirs.
People: Come, let us worship the God of our strength and of our salvation.
Collect
O God, the source of our being, we come now into closer relationship with you. Grant us inquiring minds so we may learn about you. Grant us receptive hearts so your spirit can make us new. Open our ears so your plans will get through to us. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
When all is well, Creator God, it is easy to suppose our accomplishments are entirely our own. We take the credit. When we get into trouble, quiet our gloom. Remind us always of your supporting partnership with us through Christ. Amen.
10A Hymns
"Let Us [All] With A Gladsome Mind" or "As The Sun Doth Daily Rise" Tune: INNOCENTS
"Lead Us, O Father" Tune: LANGRAN
"Come, Holy Spirit, Heavenly Dove" or "Jesus, United By Thy Grace" Tune: ST. AGNES
Second Sunday After Epiphany
Second Lesson: 1 Corinthians 1:1-9
Theme: Enriched
Call To Worship
Enriched bread is improved. It is fortified with nutrients and boosted with power to give energy to our strength. In every way, the Apostle Paul says, we have been enriched in Jesus Christ who will strengthen us to the end. Consider today how your life has been empowered by Jesus Christ. What nourishment for your spirit fortifies you? What strength have you gained?
Collect
Faithful Sustainer, you are the source of our strength. You, who continually call us into Christ's neighborhood, strengthen us for speaking up for what is right.
In Jesus' name. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Turn us around, O God, from devouring quick fix junk food for the soul. Lead us, rather, to the vegetables and complex carbohydrates that you offer for the nourishment of a solid faith.
Through Jesus. Amen.
10A Hymns
"God [Himself Is][Is Truly] With Us" Tune: ARNSBERG
"Come, Gracious Spirit, Heavenly Dove" Tune: MENDON
"Great Is [Thy][Your] Faithfulness" Tune: FAITHFULNESS
Second Sunday After Epiphany
Gospel: John 1:29-42
Theme: Come And See
Call To Worship
Come and see. There's a person you've got to know. There's someone you must meet. If you dare to, follow him. Be as Andrew, bring yourself. Then lead another to him. Be a Simon Peter and follow. Come and see.
Collect
Whet the appetite of our soul, O God, so we might recognize you when we see you. Through Christ. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
How can we know you, when no one has ever seen God? Teach us to trust within our heart of hearts that we will know you and will follow. In Jesus' name. Amen.
10A Hymns
"[O][Oh] Worship The King, All Glorious Above" or "We Worship You, God" Tune: LYONS
"We Would See Jesus" Tune: CUSHMAN
"We Meet You, O Christ" Tune: STANLEY BEACH
