LECTIONARY WORSHIP AIDS
Series III
* CALL TO WORSHIP
Hear and read what is written down in the gospel of John in order
that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the son of God
and that through your faith in him you may have life.
* PRAYER OF CONFESSION
God of all worlds, Easter Victor, Victorious Spirit, though we
are declared to be victors over the godless world, we often feel
doubtful and defeated. We are too prone to go by our feelings
and not to accept the witness of the apostles, believing his
victory to be our victory over sin and death. Victorious Spirit,
overcome our doubts and fears as we read and hear the apostolic
witness. Increase our love as well, for we need to love others
who are not as lovable as Jesus Christ. Amen.
* DECLARATION OF GOD'S FORGIVENESS
Hear the Good News! The victory that defeats the world is our
faith, for who is victor over evil, but the one who believes that
Jesus is the Son of God. Friends, believe the Good News! In
Jesus Christ, we are forgiven.
* EXHORTATION
Obey the commands of the God you love and you will love God's
children too.
* PRAYER OF THE DAY
God of earth and heaven, Christ of the cross and resurrection,
Spirit of creation and re-creation, grant us the blessing that
you promise to those who believe in the risen Christ without
visible and tangible proof of his victory over death. Amen.
* PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING
God of the living, Conqueror of death, Spirit of Love, we give
thanks and praise for every victory you give us over our fears,
our failures, our selfishness; for the courage to do what would
otherwise be impossible for us; and for the companionship of
those who work with us in common enterprises. We are grateful
for the examples of those who have gone before us, who have given
us noble experiments in unselfish service and modeled the
selflessness we do not often practice. We praise your giving,
your living, your loving, God above us, God beside us, God within
us. Amen.
* PRAYER OF DEDICATION
Living, loving, giving Spirit, surprise us with the joy of
living, that overcomes any pain in parting with our money, or any
pride in giving ourselves. Amen.
* PSALM 133
How very good and pleasant it is when kindred live together in
unity!
It is like the precious oil on the head,
running down upon the beard,
on the beard of Aaron,
running down over the collar of his robes.
It is like the dew of Hermon,
which falls on the mountains of Zion.
For there the LORD ordained his blessing,
life forevermore.
