Dr. Lloyd Bertholff was academic dean of Western Maryland College, when I first learned of his way of planting seed. I was attending theological seminary next door to that campus. He later became President of Illinois Wesleyan University, and continued his investments there also.
As a portion of his contribution to God each year, Dr. Bertholff would provide a fair scholarship for some worthy student who might not have been able to get an education otherwise.
For more than thirty years, he planted the seed of investment in young lives. Later, I heard him at a conference witness to what he had been doing through the years.
At first, he had little assurance that it was meeting the need for worthy students; but as the years passed, the seed began to grow, and proved to have been an outstanding way to make an investment.
As college education costs have accelerated, it has been of great benefit for some future leaders of the world. Our gratitude is hereby expressed to other persons who, like Dr. Bertholff, have also planted the seeds of investment, by scholarships for the youth of our land.
