GATHERING
"Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth had passed way and the sea was no more. And I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying:
" 'See the home of God is among mortals. He will dwell with them as their God; they will be his peoples and God himself will wipe every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; mourning and crying and pain will be no more, for the first things have passed away.' " (Revelation 21:1-4)

God of all life, you formed us in your own image and gave us breath. When we disobeyed your will for us, you gave us Jesus Christ, who died for us and gave us the promise of life everlasting. We praise and thank you, our God, for the life of ______________.
We thank you for the time that s/he spent with us, for the influence s/he was on our lives, for the joyful times when we laughed and for the times of pain and sorrow when we cried together. Most of all we thank you for the love we shared and for the gift s/he was in all our lives.
We praise you for the life s/he lived as your child, for her/his faith in you that carried her/him and so many through times of distress and trouble. Thank you for fulfilling in her/him the promise of your love. Help us to remember that love as we give her/him back to you from whom s/he came. Amen.
