Lectionary Worship Aids
Series VI, Cycle C
Theme: Joseph Reconciled With His Brothers
Call To Worship
Leader: Trust in the Lord and do good.
People: We seek our happiness in the Lord.
Leader: Give yourself to the Lord; trust in him, and he will help you.
People: We will be patient and wait for the Lord to act.
All: Thanks be to God whom we can trust!
Collect
Almighty God, we try to be patient and trust in you, but we look around and often see the wicked prosper. We come hoping to learn more about what it means to trust in you and to wait patiently for you to act. Enlighten us by your Spirit, we pray, and build up our determination to follow the way of Jesus -- the way of trust, patience, and obedience. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, we confess that when our brothers and sisters betray us, we find it difficult to forgive and seek reconciliation. When things do not go our way, we are prone to forget that you can make all things work together for good for those who love you. Forgive our lack of trust, we pray, and by your Spirit enable us to be more forgiving. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
Offertory Prayer
O God, you have provided us with all we need rather than all we want, and we are grateful. With thanksgiving we return a portion of what we have to you that the gospel of reconciliation and forgiveness may be spread among people everywhere. Amen.
Hymns
"Forgive Our Sins As We Forgive"
"Help Us Accept Each Other"
"Jesus, Lord, We Look To Thee"
Seventh Sunday After Epiphany
Second Lesson: 1 Corinthians 15:35-38, 42-50
Theme: The Resurrection Body
Call To Worship
Leader: This is the Word of God. When our physical bodies are buried they are mortal; when they are raised they will be immortal.
When they are buried, they are ugly and weak; when they are raised, they will be beautiful and strong.
When they are buried, they are physical bodies; when they are raised, they will be spiritual bodies.
Come, let us worship the Lord!
People: Praise be to God.
Collect
Lord, when death draws near and our loved ones die or we, ourselves, confront our mortality, we give you thanks and praise for the promise of the resurrection in which the physical body dies but is raised a spiritual body to dwell with you eternally. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Because we are mortal, Lord, we are often sad and confused when death comes knocking at our door. In times of sorrow be our Comforter and grant us reassurance of the spiritual life that awaits us and our loved ones. We pray in Jesus' name. Amen.
Offertory Prayer
O God, we know that to spread the Good News of eternal life as spiritual beings created in your image, we need material things and physical persons. Accept these offerings, we pray, as well as our commitment that we may share your love and promises. In Jesus' name. Amen.
Hymns
"On The Day Of Resurrection"
"Swing Low, Sweet Chariot"
"Hymn Of Promise"
Seventh Sunday After Epiphany
Gospel Lesson: Luke 6:27-38
Theme: Love For Enemies
Call To Worship
Leader: Seek the Lord, while he may be found. Call upon him while he is near.
People: We search for the Lord, because we find it hard to understand all his teachings.
Leader: Come with open hearts and minds, and he will make his will known to you.
People: "Holy Spirit, Truth Divine, dawn upon this soul of mine."
Collect
Lord, we hear you saying we should love our enemies and do good to those who hate us. We find this very difficult to do, and so we come this morning seeking your guidance. Teach us what this means, and may your Holy Spirit so fill our lives that we may be able to live according to your teachings. We pray in Jesus' name. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
O God, we are quick to judge others by their looks, their speech, their race. Forgive us, we pray, and help us to look at others through your eyes, and see what is in their hearts. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Offertory Prayer
Heavenly Father, we gather in the peace and quiet of this sanctuary, but we are very much aware of the storms and turmoil in the world outside. We offer these gifts and ourselves that together we might be instruments of spreading your love and peace throughout the world. Amen.
Hymns
"Holy Spirit, Truth Divine"
"In Christ There Is No East Or West"
"Where Charity And Love Prevail"
