Object:
Words Of Assurance
As a father pities his children, so the Lord pities those who fear him.
The Lord is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
Pastoral Prayer
O God, our Father, we would thank you for all the gifts with which you have filled our lives; for the daily miracle of light and shadow, work and rest, life and love; for high thoughts which uplift us and for pure hopes which bind and beckon us to you. We would thank you for disappointments and failures which have humbled us, for pain and distress which have taught us our need of you, but most of all for our faith in you and for the fullness of joy which your presence brings. You have opened your heart to us in great mercy; may we open our hearts to you in penitence and gratitude.
From our meditations here may we learn that these lives of ours, so frail and fallible, may be shaped after a noble pattern. So may we rise to your expectations of us. So may we endeavor this and every day to be what you desire, to do what you have commanded, listening to the inner voice of your Spirit, searching the depths of our hearts, leaving no spot uncleansed and sparing no sin from which it may cost us more to part.
We would put ourselves at the side of your Son, our Savior, that from him we may learn the secret of the well-balanced life, the life which yields to his restraint yet loses none of its fire and force.
We make intercession for all your people, near and far: for our brothers and sisters and companions; for those who are stricken in body, mind, or estate; for those to whom the passing years bring anger and feebleness; and for those appointed to die. O God, send some word of yours to make a highway to all hearts that need your special touch of healing and grace, and draw nigh to us in the manifold ministry of your redeeming love. We pray in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
Benediction
May the inspiration of God the Father, the encouragement of God the Son, and the enlightenment of God the Holy Spirit be yours now and forever. Amen.
