DOC: Where's Chris Adams?
BILLY: The deputy? He's comin' now.
CHRIS: (ENTERS) Doc, you better get off the street, too.
DOC: I can still shoot a gun. I'll bet I get a few buttons off the vests of them Badlanders.
MAYBELLE: Chris is right, Doc. You'd better get home. We're going to need you to patch up after the Badlanders leave.
BILLY: What are we going to do, Chris?
CHRIS: Well, Billy, I'm going to warn those Badlanders to be peaceable or move on.
BILLY: Mondo, Carney and Diablo? You're goin' to just warn 'em?
MAYBELLE: Chris, you got to do more than just warn those desparadoes.
CHRIS: I've seen the Sheriff do it plenty of times.
DOC: Sometimes it didn't work though.
CHRIS: But other times it did. Sometimes the trouble makers moved on. Listen, I got to protect this town and I aim to do it.
MAYBELLE: What if they don't move on? What then?
CHRIS: Then I'll have to have them hand over their guns to me.
DOC: Weapons, you mean. Diablo is deadly with a whip. I saw him blind a man once with that thing.
BILLY: There'll be a fight.
DOC: Billy's right, Chris. They ain't peaceable and they never will be.
CHRIS: If it comes to a fight, then I'll fight.
MAYBELLE: You ain't got the experience. Carney wasted a lot of men, I hear tell.
DOC: And Mondo, that fat slob, has killed his share, too. They're a bad lot and us with no Sheriff.
CHRIS: Rest easy, folks. The Sheriff taught me plenty. I can take care of myself and protect this town, too.
BILLY: The Badlanders! They're here! (EVERYONE COWERS BEHIND CHRIS AS THE BADLANDERS ENTER)
CARNEY: We're tired and thirsty. Get us a drink! Mondo, you thirsty?
MONDO: Sure am. A double for me.
DIABLO: A whole bottle for me.
MAYBELLE: They'll kill us all.
MONDO: Lookee there, Carney. There's that dame. 'Member the last time? (LAUGHS)
CARNEY: Yeah. I 'member. (TO MAYBELLE) Hey, you, Missy. Yeah, you. C'mere.
MAYBELLE: Chris!
CHRIS: Now, boys, we don't want no trouble here.
CARNEY: Boys? Who's he talkin' to?
MONDO: I dunno. Can't see no boys around here. 'Cept maybe him. (LAUGHS. DIABLO LAUGHS) C'mere, Sonny.
CARNEY: Don't you punch him. Let me.
CHRIS: I already told you we don't want no trouble.
CARNEY: (GRABBING MAYBELLE) I don't want trouble. I want her. (HE SLAPS HER AND DRAWS HIS GUN)
DIABLO: (GRABBING DOC. MONDO GRABS BILLY) Now, boys, I guess we'll have things our own way.
CHRIS: I'm ordering you to surrender.
DIABLO: And I suppose you got us surrounded. (LAUGHS) I think you're either blind or just plain loco. Don't go for your gun or you're a dead man.
MAYBELLE: Help me! (CARNEY SLAPS HER.)
DOC: You best back off, Chris. They've got us. (THE SHERIFF ENTERS BEHIND THE BADLANDERS HITTING DIABLO ON THE HEAD AND SHOOTING THE OTHER TWO)
MAYBELLE: (RUNNING INTO HIS ARMS) Sheriff! You showed up just in time.
SHERIFF: I've been here all along.
DOC: You have?
SHERIFF:
Yep.
BILLY: I didn't know that.
SHERIFF: Chris knew. I was here, but I didn't want the Badlanders to see me until the time was right. Chris, you did a good job.
CHRIS: I couldn't have done it without you.
SHERIFF: Well, rest easy, folks. We'll get this scum locked up. They'll be back, sometime, more than likely, later on, but they know they can't get away with anything in this town.
