Sing A New Song
Children's sermon
From a Mustard Seed
Children's Sermons
Object:
This sermon will require the use of materials from three previous children's messages, preferably those which have been used in the recent past.
Message: Today we are really going to have a great time! I have been working very hard to come up with some ideas for this children's sermon this morning and I think I've got some of the best ideas possible! (At this point start giving a sermon that has recently been given. Watch for the children's reactions to having seen it before.) All of you are acting a bit strange today. Is something wrong with this? Oh, you have seen this one before?
In that case, let's put it away and start something else! (Now you will begin the second children's sermon that has been given previously and are to watch for the same reaction.) Now wait a minute! Are you telling me there is something wrong with this one, too? You remember seeing this one also? I have one more and this time I don't think you will have a problem with it. (A third attempt at a previously given sermon and the reaction will be the same.) You remember this one, too!
I think all of you have very good memories! That is what I was counting on today, because I did this on purpose this morning! I brought several of my old children's sermons because I wanted to talk with you about having a faith in Jesus that is new and growing.
Do you realize that some people's faith is just like what happened here today? They look back to a time when God was real for them, or when Jesus answered a prayer for them, and they talk about that with excitement and enthusiasm. But they don't really have much to say about what God is doing in their lives today. They just rerun the old and say that is where their faith is based.
The Bible tells us that God wants us to sing a new song for Him. He wants us to have a daily experience of His love and care in our lives, so that when people ask us about our faith in Jesus, we don't have to only refer to what God did long ago, but we can also say, He is with me every day and I trust in his care!
