Sixth Sunday after Epiphany
Worship
LECTIONARY WORSHIP AIDS
Series VII, Cycle A
First Lesson: Deuteronomy 30:15-2
Theme: Don't Flip A Coin -- Choose
Call To Worship
The Lord has given you a clear choice between life and death, prosperity and adversity. There are no guarantees for us as individuals. Some of our best suffer bravely. Some who are worthy find their days cut short. The promise is to us as a people. In God and in God's people we all partake in the eternal life of heavenly prosperity. Without God, without God's people, all we do comes to nothing. The Lord has given you a clear choice. Choose.
Collect
Lord, our culture tells us it's all good. Don't choose. Have it all. Today as we worship your holy name we make our choice for life against death. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord who leads us through the wilderness, God who is our guide, we have trusted you before and we admit we have doubted you as well. Forgive us as we waver. Beckon to us from your holy hill. We follow. Amen.
Hymns
"Lead On O Cloud Of Presence"
"The God Of Abraham Praise"
"Day By Day"

Second Lesson: 1 Corinthians 3:1-9
Theme: Whose Church Is It?
Call To Worship (Deuteronomy 6:4-6)
Hear, O Israel: The Lord is our God, the Lord alone. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might. Keep these words that I am commanding you today in your heart.
Collect
Not as a fractured people, claiming an allegience to an earthly realm, but as members of one body in Christ, we come together in our time of worship to praise you, Lord, and to seek the meaning of your Holy Word for our lives. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
O Lord who is one, we come to you divided. We confess that in our hardness of heart we nurture our grievances, real and imagined. As members of one body justified through one cross and claiming one reward we pray for your healing and the peace that passes understanding. Amen.
Hymns
"Marching To Zion"
"Have Thine Own Way"
"There Is A Balm In Gilead"

Gospel Lesson: Matthew 5:21-37
Theme: Just Who Are You Kidding?
Call To Worship
Let us call upon the Lord, not as a co-signer to our worldly ambitions, but as a redeemer, who erases the debts of our sins.
Collect
We have heard it said by others that the Bible says this or the Bible says that. You have given the Word into our hands. May we listen for ourselves this day, and read for ourselves these days, so your grace can shine into our lives. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, don't laugh at the games we play, convincing ourselves and no one else that we are pure in heart. In your love encourage us to look into the mirror of our souls to see the spiritual truth so we may turn from destruction and back towards glory. Amen.
Hymns
"God Whose Giving"
"Take My Life"
"There Are Many Gifts"
