A Call To Worship
Worship Aids, Lectionary Year B
Call To Worship (based on Psalm 30)
One: I will extol you, O LORD, for you have drawn me up, and did not let my foes rejoice over me.
All: O LORD my God, I cried to you for help, and you have healed me.
Women: O LORD, you brought up my soul from Sheol, restored me to life from among those gone down to the Pit.
Men: Sing praises to the LORD, O you his faithful ones, and give thanks to his holy name.
Right: For his anger is but for a moment; his favor is for a lifetime.
Left: Weeping may linger for the night, but joy comes with the morning.
Front: Hear, O LORD, and be gracious to me! O LORD, be my helper!
Back: You have turned my mourning into dancing; you have taken off my sackcloth and clothed me with joy,
All: so that my soul may praise you and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks to you forever.
Unison Scriptural Response
Dear Lord, you tell us that weeping may linger for the night, but joy comes with the morning. Sometimes it seems like morning is a long way off. Sometimes it seems we walk in morning's light but the rest of the world huddles in darkness. Let your light shine on us, in us, and through us, so that the hope of your promises will lighten the hearts of your people everywhere. Guide our feet as we run the race of salvation. Call to us. Heal us. Save us. These things we pray in the name of your blessed and saving Son. Amen.
Morning Prayer(based on 1 Corinthians 9:24-27)
God of Challenges, we seek to run your race in such a way that all may win the prize of salvation. To do this we need self-control, and a strong will, because the prize is an imperishable one. With your help we will not run aimlessly, but proclaim to all others about your saving grace. Amen.
Offering Prayer
This day and every day we acknowledge that all we have is yours, and that what we call giving to you is simply returning but a portion of your bounty. Bless these our gifts for your work and magnify their value so they may do things greater even than our dreams. Amen.
Children's Benediction
God's favor is for a lifetime. Joy comes to us this morning.
