Leader: Choose life
People: Even when you must contend with disease, a chronic condition, or economic perils.
Leader: Choose life
People: Even when the loss of a relationship or death of a lifemate or a child muddles your whole being.
Leader: Choose life
People: Even when life changes bring unsettling hours.
All: Yes, even when ... choose life.
Collect
We would live as fully and meaningfully as possible, O God. Enliven our senses to be aware of the beauty of the world around us, our relationships, and within our own being. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Sometimes, God, everything seems too much effort, too much trouble, or futile. Then we need your words: Choose life. When it is our turn to be doleful, remind us to choose life so we may live fully rather than waste prized time. Amen.

"When Morning Gilds The Skies" Tune: LAUDES DOMINI
"[If Thou But Suffer God To Guide Thee][If You But Trust In God To Guide You]" Tune: NEUMARK [WER NUR DEN LIEBEN GOTT]

Sixth Sunday After Epiphany
Second Lesson: 1 Corinthians 3:1-9
Theme: Servanthood
Call To Worship
We are God's servants, working together. It is God who gives the growth. We are God's field, God's building. This is the essence of the life of this church. Let us be about the work of God.
Collect
You, O God, have plans for us that we have not yet imagined. You, who inspires the life within a seed to grow, also inspire the vitality of this congregation. Praise be to you, O God. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Quiet our twinges of human jealousy, O God. Silence our quarreling even if it is only a grumble. Turn our hearts away from finding fault. Let nothing distract us from the service this church can offer. Guide our congregation toward the shaping of common goals that reflect the discovery of your plans for our church. Through Christ. Amen.
14A Hymns
"[Incarnate][Strong Son Of] God, Immortal Love" Tune: ROCKINGHAM
"We Are Not Our Own" Tune: YARNTON
"For The Beauty Of The Earth" Tune: DIX
Sixth Sunday After Epiphany
Gospel: Matthew 5:21-37
Theme: The Mere Thought Of It
Call To Worship
Consider how different the world would be if we took care of sores of the heart before they became ulcers. How different things would be if we attended to small grievances before they snowballed into lawsuits. How different if love and kindness were to prevail.
Collect
It is the little stuff of not loving, dear God -- the insult, the snide remark, an old and submerged anger simmering within, the unsettled relationship -- that corrodes the soul. Help us to take care of unfinished concerns of the heart. Draw us toward reconciliation. In Jesus' name. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
We admit, O God, that the mere thought of some things is enough to send us down the wrong path. Guide us back to the laws of kindness, of forgiveness, and of a loving spirit that lead to fullness of life. In Jesus' name. Amen.
14A Hymns
"Awake, My Soul, And With The Sun" Tune: MORNING HYMN
"O For A World" Tune: AZMON
"Where Charity And Love Prevail"1 Tune: ST. PETER
____________
1. Sing "Where Charity And Love Prevail" antiphonally with "In Christ There Is No East Or West" as a choir/congregation duet.
