Call To Worship
Leader: Lord, you have examined me and you know me. You know everything I do.
People: You see me, whether I am working or resting; you know my actions.
Leader: You are all around me on every side; you protect me with your power.
People: Your knowledge of me is too deep; it is beyond my understanding.
All: Come, let us worship together and sing our praises to the God of complete knowledge.
Collect
Almighty God, it is when we are serving you that we are most likely to hear you speak to us. As we serve you this morning through our worship together, may we hear you speak to each of us individually, and may our responses be guided by your Spirit. In Jesus' name. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, so many voices are calling us at all hours of the day and night. They speak our name when we answer the phone. Their message screams at us from the television screen. The words leap out at us from the daily paper. All of them declare they know what is best for us. Help us, Lord, to shut out the sales people of the world, and to listen for your call to serve you and you alone. Amen.
Hymns
"Many Gifts, One Spirit"
"You Are The Seed"
Proper 4/Ordinary Time 9
Sunday between May 29 and June 4 inclusive
Second Lesson: 2 Corinthians 4:5-12
Theme: Power Belongs To God
Call To Worship
Leader: God is light and in him is no darkness at all.
People: If we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another.
Leader: O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together!
People: For God has made his light shine in our hearts to bring us the knowledge of God's glory shining in the face of Christ.
Collect
O Eternal God, speak to each of us the word that we need, and let your word abide with us. Direct and increase our faith, and grant that by our worship at this time we may be able to see you more clearly, love you more fully, and serve you more perfectly; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Our lives are fragile like ordinary clay pots. The trouble we get into, the doubts that arise within us, friends that desert us in time of need, the hurt we are expected to endure all threaten to undo us. They would succeed too, if it were not for your power to sustain us, and your abiding presence that lets us know you are our friend we can depend on. Thank you, Lord. Amen.
Hymns
"Steal Away To Jesus"
"O God Who Shaped Creation"
Proper 4/Ordinary Time 9
Sunday between May 29 and June 4 inclusive
Gospel Lesson: Mark 2:23--3:6
Theme: Sabbath Is The Lord's Day
Call To Worship
God is the light of the world, and he sent his Son, Jesus, to lead the world out of darkness into that light.
If we follow that light, we must follow a power higher than the law.
Come, let us seek that light that we may bring it to bear on the problems of our world.
Collect
We thank you, God, for the gift of your Son who taught us that what is pleasing in your sight is not some strict obedience to rules and regulations, but what serves human need and shows forth your love for all humanity. Through our worship this morning, may we receive the power of your Holy Spirit that we may go back into the world as bearers of your light in a dark age. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
O God, we come into your presence with our songs of praise and thanksgiving for your love for us. Your love accepts us, even when we feel unacceptable. Your love forgives us, even when we are reluctant to forgive ourselves. Your love encourages us to be joyful participants rather than gloomy spectators. In this time of worship may we be receptive to your love, and may we be filled with the power of your Holy Spirit so that we may show your love to others in all that we say and do. Through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
Hymns
"We Gather Together"
"Jesus, We Want To Meet"
