Straight A's - Forever!
Children's sermon
The Giant Book Of Children's Sermons
Matthew To Revelation
Object: a grade card or grade printout with all A's
Good morning, boys and girls. Have you ever wanted something so much that you would do almost anything to get it? (let them answer) What would you like right now that you do not have? (let them answer) We want a lot of things, don't we? I suppose that it is good that we can't have everything that we want or otherwise we would stop trying.
Some things are more important than other things for all of us. For instance, you would all like to have good grades in school. Good grades do not come easy, do they? (let them answer) Let's suppose that you worked very hard in school and did all your homework. If you did all of this, you would have a grade card that looked like this grade card looks. (show them a grade card with straight A's) That very good grade card is the outcome of your hard work, your special effort.
Let's think of something else that all of us want. How would you like to live forever with joy in your heart? (let them answer) All of us would like to live forever in joy. The Bible tells us that it will happen to everyone who has faith. The outcome of our faith is living forever with God in joy. What is faith? We talk a lot about faith and we tell each other that we must have it, but what is it? Faith is doing what we say that we believe. A lot of people believe that Jesus is the Son of God, but they don't act like Jesus is the Son of God. They believe, but they don't have faith. When you obey the things that you believe, then you have faith.
God promises us life with joy. We believe that God gives life when we are born. We also believe that God will give us new life when we die. Now we must live in faith just like we must work in school. If we work in school and do the things that we say we want to do, then we will have good grades. If we have faith in God, and that is doing the things that we say we believe in, then we will have a new life of joy after we die. That is the promise of God - and God keeps all of his promises.
First we must believe that God gives us life. It is a free gift. We must do what we say we believe, and that is faith. The outcome of faith is living forever with God in peace and joy.
