Theme: Turning The Other Cheek
Call To Worship
Leader: He was oppressed, and he was afflicted,
People: yet he did not open his mouth;
Leader: like a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and like a sheep that before its shearers is silent,
People: so he did not open his mouth.
Leader: They made his grave with the wicked, and his tomb with the rich,
People: although he had done no violence, and there was no deceit in his mouth.
Leader: Come, let us worship the One who was wounded for our transgressions, crushed for our iniquities.
Invocation
O Lord, as your followers shouted hosannas and spread their clothing and palm branches to greet you on that first Palm Sunday, so we open our lips in praise and spread our lives before you in sacrifice.
May we not forget, Lord, that before the week was over you were beaten, tortured, mocked, and spat upon.
Help us to understand, Lord, that between the victories of Palm Sunday and Easter you underwent this humiliation for us.
With humble and contrite hearts we bow before you in this hour to offer our prayers of thanksgiving for your life, death, and resurrection. Amen.
Confession
Lord, we confess that often we leave this time of worship with loud hosannas still ringing in our hearts, and shouts of acclamation coming from our lips to praise the King of kings, only to find by the end of the week we have been swayed by the crowd and our hosannas, as well as our actions, cry out, "Crucify him!" Forgive us, Lord, and strengthen our faith that we may remain true disciples. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
Offertory Prayer
Lord, as you made your triumphal entry into Jerusalem, we pray that you will make a triumphal entry into our hearts and lives. By your Holy Spirit enable us to be faithful disciples praising you not only with our lips, but by our deeds and by our giving for the sake of others. Amen.
Hymns
"All Glory, Laud And Honor"
"What Wondrous Love Is This"
"Hail, Thou Once Despised Jesus"
